Unzip Software For Xbox

Excellent idea. Would be much easier to just transfer rars or something, and would definately speed up the process.

Maybe should have put this in the development section of the forum though.

Ok so now you need 2-3 times the disk space for the game to be available.

Hmmm...

I think the Xbox supports zips... If on one of the OXM Demo disk there was a Hitman demo dir.  The demo wasnt able to be played but there was zip files in the directory.  So if this is true it shouldnt be to hard to make a program for the Xbox to unzip files on the Xbox

And your point...  tongue.gif

Not like anyone would have to do this to get a game on, but if you have the extra space to work with it would definately speed up the transfer.

As for it being a FlashFXP thing... maybe. I will try that other proggie and see if it helps, but as is, the more files (regardless of size) the longer the transfer.

I use flashFXP and I get great speeds.  There is a slight pause between each file.  After 16,000 files I guess those small pauses add up

Not for every game, just the current one you are transferring (once you unzip you delete the source zip).  Anyway I have 120GB drive so an extra few GB isnt my primary concern

WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU ALL DOING WRONG!!!???

Mabye its flaxFXP or something... I use WSFTP pro 7.x. WIth that one I select a WHOLE DIRECTORY on my pc and then start the x-fer... it takes about 9 minutes for 3 gigs to transfer across.

I'm using CuteFTP and I too select the WHOLE DIRECTORY (not sure what you point is).  3 gigs in 9 minutes is very fast (over 44Mbps), I'm surprised that your hard drive can write the data that fast.    The fastest I can write a large file is about 14Mbps (I've tried a crossover cable as well as a switch) - I'm using a Maxtor 120GB 5400rpm drive.

Anyway my point remains that it takes a long time to transfer many small files because of the overhead ftp adds to the process.  I am quite sure you dont transfer 3 gigs in 9 minutes when that 3 gigs is composed of ten thousand files.  FTP is not an efficient way to move lots of small files, much better to move it as a single compressed image and then unpack it at the xbox.

You'd be suprised how much time the FTP client "wastes" doing thousands of small files instead of one big file.  I bet it would cut the transfer time to almost half.

Didnt you pirates spend four hours downloading the game? You can't wait another 15 minutes to play it?

This feature would be awesome. What about a way to zip a game dvd to the xbox harddisk, so then you can backup games much faster. So a compress and decompress tool.
