Error Code 5
« on: October 24, 2002, 06:48:00 AM »

To answer myself on this problem is sad, but for some reason I took the box apart again and thinking the chip might needed to be realign which still did not work after boot up, so i left it there in pieces and left it for the next day since it was late and i was tired. The next morning , booted the box back up and all ok.  Not sure what the problem was really, but oh well. Things have there moments i guess.

I have seen my Xodus look like it was aligned (green light on when booting) but it really wasn't.   So your Xodus probably wasn't making good contact and it was trying to boot to the MS Dashboard and giving you that error because your drive is not locked.

One thing a friend had...

Installed Matrix chip. flashed perfectly, light on it was green, yet it still continually tried to boot into the unhacked kernel (which sounds like what you are getting).

We spent ages fiddling about with it, but in the end it turned out that one of the DIP switches on the matrix wasn't completely pushed across.

QUOTE (NizCorp @ Oct 23 2002, 10:12 PM)
Hi all , Problem here. I have an error code 5 showing up now and It will not let me boot into my evox menu nor can i boot with the iso of the evox. I have a matrix chip installed with 256k.Evx2.5.colormod.err.noani.ybox for my bios. Installed a 120 gig hd and has all my backups on it.  I boot up and goes to the error screen. Error code 5 kernel - HDD not locked (retail bioses require the hd to be locked).  DO i need to lock my HD or what is the problem here. I have also reseated my chip to make sure it was not misaligned. Can anyone suggest what i need to do here so i can be able to boot back up?

What mode is the modchip in? And what button are you pressing to turn on your xbox?

Since you've replaced your hard drive, and its giving you Error Code 5, then most likely the xbox is still booting the origional bios.

Check your switches, try reflashing the chip (maybe it didn't do it successfully), or put your old HD back in and see if you get the same error.

I have done all that.  But i have found teh problem and its the chip is being misaligned.  I realign and everything is ok, Now the problem is that since i have taken the chip out to reflash a couple times and placed back in the box now the hole is stripped so im trying to figure out a way to mount the chip back in.

Someone just posted a tutorial on how to install a bolted screw for people like you.

I think it;s in the Modchip Installation topic.

I thought we had successfully (and easily) installed a matrix in my friend's xbox ... until he got home. His box would turn on, and then off, and then back on again and start blinking red. After opening it up and inspecting the chip, it was still blinking green??
