aparently the WD7200 8MB produces less heat than many 5400 drives.

http://www.hardwarea...t/article/1540/   for a comparison of heat, noise, etc:

Are you sure that you are not reading the chart backwards?

The 7200 RPM larger capacity drives are at the top with the longest bars indicating higher and VERY significant temperature increases.

Except for the two WD800's all of the 5400 RPM drives produce less heat.

Compared to the OEM drive, which gets almost imperceptably warmer than ambient, these are producing a fair amount of heat.

The point is that people still need to take this into account, especially with the higher capacity drives.

WD 120gb 7200RPM works fine in my xbox no heat problems at all.  At first I thought it may be a problem but I been using it for months and its on alot so I can't speak for other brands but WD 120gb 7200 rpm is fine.

man opjose how many times did you repeat yourself......honestly guys what you need to do is do the external HD mod...and buy a HD housing and sit it on top of your box.....2mb 80gig maxtor 7200 and no problems...no lag or nothing. I run it external for easy HD swaping:)

fuck those stories about overheating problems, 7200 rpm just works great.
Those stories began when some noobs were playing fucked up games, and they had some crashes during playing, so they came with the Ass idea that it was caused by the hdd temp.

Just buy a 7200 rpm drive, its faster  cool.gif

No you are quite wrong.

There are heat (and also as pointed out) increased current draw issues.

It may not affect your Xbox, but never the less it remains a consideration.

Also your own sexual proclivities are highly irrelevant.
