just to let you guys know, i put a 160gb wd hdd in my buddys xbox yesterday and it works fine. Xbox recognizes it no problem. So if you want to know the answer to hdds larger than 137, its YES. c: reads something like 200 or 300 meg, e: reads around 4.5 gigs, the f: reads around 150 gig, and the other ones are around 700 meg a piece. All i know is that i saw 150 gig under f:, and after about 6 games installed, the space changed accordingly on the desktop skin that i have. Never say never.

i agree with styles.  I got a 160 gig in my xbox.  It recognizes the hd and all the space with no problem.  In fact I need to upgrade to a new hd.  I got tons of movies, backuped games, pictures and all sort of stuff on the hd.  I got like 2 gigs left.  I want to put in atleast a 250 gig hd.  So as Stlyes said, you can break the 137 gig threshold.  I am running the latest x2 bios and am using atleast 156 gigs of the space.  I say 156 because you still have x y and z drives to factor in as the take 786 megs each and like 2.2 gigs total.  So in short, yes do the hd upgrade.

smile.gif, I've installed & setup several 250 - 300 Gig drives with no problems. I used the 4979/4980 bios with the drive g partition & have had no problems running the games from either partitions (F & G). So sure u can use a larger drive.

U can learn something from everybody smile.gif.

Uhh - guys, this thread started in September - before the LBA48 large drive patch was released.
I think it is quite well known now that the most recent bios' can make use of much larger drive space.

Do you have to install a fan with a 250gb drive?

I think the fan that is already in there is sufficient enough for any hard drive, but if you want to upgrade, go ahead, just know what size fan to replace the other with.

The xbox can recognize up to 137 GB. Anything above that would be wasted.

Well, they have about 175 XBox games released. So, let's assume you like all of 'em, and they all take up an average of 5 Gigs. That would equal a whopping 875 Gigabytes worth of HDD space you need. This doesn't include, of course, the full, emulated sets for the various emulators, which would take up, say, 15 Gigabytes, give or take a Gig. Lets tack on another 10 Gigabytes, because if you fill a HDD up to the brim, the games suffer for it. This leaves a grand total of 900GB. 137GB seems real small compared to that, eh?
Of course, this is a pretty innacurate estimate, as most people wont want every single XBox game, and some people may not care enough to get the full sets for the emulated systems (heathens =-). But, hey, just wanted to put my two cents in. Not trying to be a prick or anything, but I'm an obsessive-compulsive collecter: I can't just get some of 'em, I need to get _all_ of 'em.
Toodaloo.

Oops, forgot DivX movies and MP3s. Yeah, bump that total up to about 1200 Gigabytes.... that is, ripping about 200 movies to high-quality AVIs, and anothe 100 Gigabytes for even the biggest mp3 collection. Rackmount, anyone? =-)

5 gigs average game!?! DVD's only hold 4.7 gig!  rolleyes.gif

Most games, even full DVD versions seem to be around 1 gig or less....

BzD: I'm rounding up. I never said my estimate was accurate, and it's always better to overshoot anyhow, especially considering backups load for sh*t if you fill a HDD to the brim (or anywhere near that nebulous mark).
