40gb Hd Refuses To Boot On Xbox
« on: September 18, 2002, 11:21:00 AM »

To anyone who can figure this one out:

I took a spare 40gb 7200rpm Maxtor  DiamondMax ata66 HD from my computer and ran hdprepa on it, selecting the format first 4096 sectors. I had premade a EvolutionX boot disk that i know worked. I installed the HD into the xbox, making aure all connections wre good but it would not boot to the evox cdrw but it will with the original HD. I then tried"zero"ing the entire drive but it still wouldnt work. i even tried erasing the whole hd partition but still no luck after "zero"ing.

I dont know wtf the problem is. i have done everyhting connrectly. is it this specific hard drive that will not work? any suggestions? Im in windows XP if that helps for whatever reason.

thanx all

Maybe its because its only ata66.

A bit of a shot in the dark , but I can't see any other reason.

A little tip, if you do fit drives that have been used before, then you must zero the whole drive !

Oh, and the latest HDPrep is 1.3, so you're fine there.

Later,

Not the easiest or quickest method but it should work:
Start over.
Reprep the HD, follow the guide exactly.  Use a CDRW to do the initial boot of Evox.  If it won't load it then install another drive (PC DVD Drive) to read the Evox disk.
