Cant Connect Pc To Xbox
« on: September 18, 2002, 02:44:00 AM »

My PC is installed with Win XP Pro and i am using Flash FXP 1.43 to try and connect.  I have followed all the instructions i have found on the forum and have a problem.

I have booted the Xbox off a CD-RW with the latest EvoX software on and it boots successfully.  I have checked the network settings and they are:

IP: 192.168.0.3
Netmask : 255.255.255.0
Gateway: 192.168.0.1
Static IP: No

FTP enabled: Yes
FTP password: xbox

Everything else is as it should be.

I have set my NIC IP address to be 192.168.0.1 and the netmask to be 255.255.255.0 on my PC

I have connected a crossover network cable to the Xbox and the PC and there is a link light both ends.  As my PC is upstairs and the Xbox/TV downstairs, i have just plugged the Xbox into the mains and the network cable upstairs, and it has no controllers or TV connected.

When i try and connect with my pc (user xbox and password xbox and host 192.168.0.3) it fails.  If i run a ping from Windows it also fails.

Could it be because I have no TV/controllers connected ?  As I am booting off the CD-RW i am using the default settings from EvoX.

Help !!!!

If I'm not mistaken booting from disk will set your network settings back to Auto - Assinged By DHCP Server.

Get a TV next to your pc and get Evo X installed to your HDD , then you'll know what network settings your have in your box.

Hey Dawg your problem is an easy fix when you first set up your evox your computer ip must be on automatic find ip and use the ip evox has which is auto when you boot up after  you connect using that ip change the ips in evox as you said what I use is defauot gateway to 192.168.0.2 and the other ip to 192.168.0.2and before you disconnect put the evox default.xbe which you will rename to xboxdash.xbe and the xboxdash.xbe rename it to msxboxdash.xbe and make sure you also put the evox.ini in your C: what I do is before I put evox in my C:  I change the evox.ini ips there and change all my setting there and put static ip to yes and turn off your xbox go to your ethernet card properites and change the ip to 192.168.0.3 if you wait until I get home I can send you my evox.ini which is already set up with the ips and all that good stuff I am at work right now it is 7 pm here and I get home at midnight I will be happy to fix your problem I fixed it for maybe 10 people here on xbox-scene btw the reason you cant connect when you change the ips is because the default.xbe and evox.ini is not in your xbox so they dont link like that with a static ip alright man later and sorry for not using commas and periods I am just good like that :)

                                    Use the guide to getting Evolution X on your Xbox HD using Boxplorer.  It's in the tutorials section on this site.   This is simply THE best method.  I had exactly the same problems you are encountering.  Then I decided to try that method.  And my CDRW which didn't want to boot EvoX, booted in the first try and five minutes later everything was hunky dory :)

And now my box is a great mediabox.  All this homebrew software just kicks ass.  Cheers to all those involved in the scene  :beer:

Thanks guys.

The reason i am trying to connect is to get the current HDD software off so i can replace the HDD.

I will give it a go with boXplorer later.

I'm using exactly the same setup as you and had the same problem. It was sorted by setting the static ip option to 'yes'
That way you can use the ip 198.168.0.3 that is set in the evox.ini in flash fxp. Hope this helps  :D

Hey I have the same problem...
Xbox ip=192.168.0.2
subetnetmask=255.255.255.0
Default Gateway=192.168.0.1
Static ip=yes

pc ip=192.168.0.1
subetnetmask=255.255.255.0

So when I turn my XBOX ip to 192.168.0.3 the problem is solved??
Is the ip from XBOX a standard value in evox.ini??

No Dawgs the only way you will connect with the set up your using is if you already have the evox.ini and also the default.xbe which will be ranamed to xboxdash.xbe what you do is with the old evox put your pc ip to look it up automatically and use the auto ip evox menu give you to connect then change your ips what I do is put in the new evox default.xbe and the evox.ini but before I put in the evox.ini I edit it to put the ips myself I have one already edite if anyone wants it so all you have to do is put it in your xbox C: and disconnect set your pc to 192.168.0.2 now and reboot your xbox with NO disc in the drive then your all set
