Problems W/ Evox - My Pc Won't Connect To It!
« on: September 11, 2002, 03:26:00 AM »

Well it's not saved because your not scrolling down to the bottom of the settings screen which has an option to save the settings.  You should be answering yes to using a static IP.  Also make sure you scroll down and enable FTP, once again this option is farther down in the settings.

Oh but I am scrolling down to the bottom of the screen everytime, always selecting 'Save & Exit'.  But it is never saved, and the IP is always 0.0.0.0 & 'Static IP' is disabled & 'Setup Network' is always set to 'Yes' - no matter how many times I change it and save the settings.

My assumption is that EvoX somehow figures that it connects thru a DHCP server, and configures it's settings accordingly blink.gif

If anyone here has had this problem then I would be grateful if they could share their experience.

>>And to get this straight, I'm booting the EvoX off a CD-RW, but that shouldn't change anything would it?

The network settings are saved to the evox.ini file.
If evox.ini is on your CD-RW, then it will NOT be saved! I think.....

Then I have a catch 22 situation here...what did you guys use?   Did you have to modify the IP settings before EvoX started working properly??

                                    Don't use a static IP!
Just look at the IP assigned on the Xbox, and use that on your PC's FTP client.
It's a pain, changes each time, but you shouldn't need to do this often right?

If you don't have a DHCP server, the xbox won't get an IP address.

Why are you rebooting?  You shouldn't have to.  Just fire up Evox, make your settings, then ftp to it.  Get it off the CD and onto the HD, and then you should be ok!  But don't reset the XBox each time; you shouldn't have to.

You can also edit the evox.ini file before you put it on the cd.  Just put the values you want in there and it will boot up with those settings.

The IP assigned on the xbox is 0.0.0.0 - and that is definately not a valid IP to connect to.

The 0.0.0.0 means that your Xbox is NOT getting an IP adddress.  When you actually get a valid connection that IP at the top will become the IP of your Xbox.. if you are using static IP it will be whatever you set the IP to... basically, the IP at the top is the ACTUAL IP of the XBox, and the othe IP setting a little lower indicates what your are attemtping to set the IP to.

Your problem lies in the fact that you are trying to run from a CD-RW without setting up the evox.ini BEFORE you burn it.  When you change a menu setting and try to save it, it is ATTEMTING to save it to the evox.ini on the CDRW, which is not possible.

If you burned EvoX from an ISO file, you will first need to extract the ISO then make the changes to the INI, and burn from there.  Just edit the ini with notebook, the settings that you need to change should be pretty obvious.

Good luck.

OK guys, I've solved this now.

And I used the ONLY method to get EvoX onto my hard drive - using the Boxplorer-burnt-onto-a CDRW method.  It took the better part of...like 10 minutes smile.gif

I'm very happy now....

the reason you are getting 0.0.0.0 is because you are not replacing the old xboxdash.xbe with the one from the new evolx abd also put in evox.ini and take off menu.ini if you dont have the new xboxdash.xbe and evox.ini it cannot find an ip tell me what happens

Hi,

I used to have that problem too but it's solved now.
I set the xbox ip=198.162.0.2,subnet=255.255.255.0,gateway=198.162.0.1,static ip=no.
I set my pc ip=198.162.0.1,subnet=255.255.255.0
At first,my xbox gets the 0.0.0.0 ip and I can't connect it to my pc.Then I tried installing ICS and now the xbox gets it's own dhcp ip as I defined earlier and it stays that way.Hope that helps!
