Messed Up Hard Drive. Unbootable Cd.
« on: September 19, 2005, 11:22:00 PM »

i got a new xbox. stuck my old mod chip in. evox boot disk worked fine. ftp'd my xbox and transfered all of the xbox's folders to my computer. then i tried to install a new hard drive...

i added the "install new hard drive" menu option to evox.ini but forgot to replace the stock hard drive with my new one before clicking it so now i have 2 hard drives with nothing on them. i thought no problem, ill just launch the old evox boot disk and ftp all those folders to my new hard drive. but the disk wont load and the "your xbox needs service" error comes up.

is there any way to fix this or am i totally screwed?

im about to try to stick the hard drive in my computer and just copy everything but for some reason i dont think that will work.

If your larger HDD isn't locked, and you have all of your files on your pc, take a look at the XboxHDM link in my sig.

You don't put the XboxHDM disc in your Xbox!  You plug your Xbox hdd into your PC, and remove your pc one.  Then load it from the PC drive.

from what you have said, i'm thinking that the dvd check on the bios is turned off.  meaning that the xbox doesn't check for .xbe files on the dvd upon boot up.  this might explain why the xbox was able to read it when it was working and not working when there is nothing on the HD.

you can do it two ways.
stick that HD in your pc and copy the contents into the new HD

Or

you can use somebody's modded box.  stick your HD in it (hopefully their bios supports the .xbe on d: on boot)  use the evox boot disc and ftp the contents into the HD.  then put that HD in your xbox

good luck!

ok but how would i turn the dvd check back on so it reads the disks? would it be on the modchip bios or the xbox bios?
