Hard Drive Overheating?
« on: August 30, 2005, 03:51:00 PM »

Here is the problem, games boot up from from the harddrive and runs great for a long time, but when i want to switch games it freezes at the loading screen.  I've noticed that on the temp for the HDD whenever it is over 25 degrees it does this, if it stays below it works fine.  So I would hvae to let the xbox cool or wait for the temp to go down before I am able to load another game.  Has anyone else had this problem?  Can anyone help?

Add a fan mod to the hdd or increase the speed of the stock fan.

I use to have this problem when I first modded my box, I added a 80mm fan and it took care of the problem. If you dont want to go through the hassel of hacking your HD tray and the fan for it to fit in your case, you can get a 12volt mod for like 3$ and just hook it up to your stock fan to increase power.

Hye guys thanks for the reply
, i'm sorry that i didn't mention this before but i did those mods already.  80mm fan, increased speed and cut the HDD tray a little for better air flow.  Is there anything else you can think of?  My only other option I can think of is to add fans to the sides and to cut some of the metal sheilding away for better air flow.

what if you try to load something like media player?  with all that cooling you got, i doubt it's a heating issue unless you keep your xbox in a really tight cabinent or some crazy position.  i've never seen an hdd get so hot that it locks up though in an xbox or pc, usually software related.
