Now What?

How long the Xbox logo screen staying on?  We were impatient the first few times and just assumed it wasn't taking but we finally just let it sit for a bit and it booted right up.  This was with a CD-RW.  Our later DVD-R's boot up fast.

I've waited up to 10 minutes with no success.
I can always tell when it goes "dead" when I start hearing
the DVD drive start ticking.  The sound it makes sounds like it is
sequentially searching track to track.

I forgot to mention earlier that my Xbox did boot Evo-X successfully
a few times.  It was intermittent but it did boot.  I decided at that time not to complete the HD file changes and shut the unit down.  When I came home, and ever since, I have been unable to successfully boot even once.

I also tried a PC-DVD drive but the same result - Xbox logo screen.

MAC21:  Just curious, what is the manuf. date on your Xbox?

Can you tell if your mod bios is active after you boot?
What method are you using to figure this out?

I used Complex 1.02 and looked at the Kernal version in the System Info screen.  New=Kernal 4627, Original= 4034

If you mod changes when you put physical pressure on it then it must be a loose connection (cold solder joint).

My PCBIOXX worked a few times then it stopped booting Evo-X altogether.
It hasn't booted in the last 100 tries.  (also tons of different media brands, DVD-RW, CDRW, resoldering, bios flashing etc)
Good Luck

u say u booted once and copied the stuff to hd, right?

then after that u couldn't get it to boot again?

sounds like defective mod/bad solder job

I heard a lot of systems wont play backups ( ie.  Evox either ) if the date/time isn't set on the box.  Did you double check that after booting up normally?
