Error Code 07
« on: June 08, 2005, 11:20:00 AM »

I've searched and I'm just making sure before I toss it. I have an unmodded xbox that gets error code 07 and I have no password for the hdd. Is the only thing that I can use out of this xbox the dvd drive?

Just put a modchip in there, reformat the hd, and reinstall the dashboards and apps.  Use Slayers if you must..

It'll save you from throwing out a perfectly good xbox.

Ok I got another question about another xbox I have, its unmodded. It has symptoms of console coma part of the time and sometimes it will boot the xbox logo but no MS logo appears at the bottom and sits there for about 10 seconds and goes to the "your xbox needs service" with no error code. I purchased this xbox cheap and have no idea if anything was done to it prior and there are no signs of any mod being installed unless it was a no solder mod. Any help on getting it running again would be appreciated.

You could try chipping it, and see if it boots up...  You might want to reformat the hard drive and reinstall the dash and apps.  If that cures the problems when the chip is off, wonderful.  If not, you'd need to reflash the tsop.  If it's a 1.0 or 1.1, I'd recommend splitting the tsop two ways, flashing a retail bios on half, and a hacked bios on the other half.  Then you can remove your chip and still be able to "disable" the mod.

Hell, if it's a 1.0/1.1, I'd go and reflash the tsop first (split, like above), then reformat and reinstall the dash/apps.  That'll save you from having to install a chip.

More likely than not, your hard disk is failing or dead (does it make lots of noise when it spins up?).  You can try to reformat and reinstall, but I wouldn't hold my breath.

Either way, you'll need a chip, or load an exploit and tsop flash (if you can get it to boot)...

If I done that how would I go about flashing it? Would it be able to boot a cd with the bios on it after I soldered the correct points for the tsop? I also have an xbox with a 29 wire chip in it if that would help me any.

As far as flashing the tsop, after you've soldered the write-enable points, you'll need to first get the xbox to boot.  Try reseating all the connections (hard drive ide/power, dvd ide/power), and try to boot it.  You might even try tapping the hard drive (it's failing as is, so don't worry about killing the drive).  Then you'd need to load an exploit and flash.

If you can't get the box to boot at all, your only option is a chip.  I wouldn't recomend removing your 29wire chip and installing it in this box...  They're quite complicated and tempremental.  If you've got one working, don't disturb it!  Check the BST forums and pick up a chip.  You can get a cheap one (duox2 lites are only $9 from oki-mod, and I think the duox2's are going for around $11 now) and make it temporary, or go all out and get a big chip like the x3 or smartxx v2 or xenium ice.
