Slow Ftp Download, Blazing Fast Upload
« on: August 15, 2002, 04:47:00 AM »

Well i get slow uploads and fast downloads from my xbox.

I can only get uploading to xbox at about 600kps and 2 nights ago i though all my dreams had come true as i was uploading doa3 from my pc to the xbox and i got speeds at 115.000kps and i was watching the hard drive through evox hard drive menu and it was counting down at lighting speed.

I can not get that speed again as now the best i get is 700kps uploads so i wish i knew what happened that night as that super upload speed would be great all the time as i want to transfer all my dvd original games to hard drive but at 700kps it just take to long to go as i need my pc for downloading more xbox stuff and mp3s as i do not do anything else while transferring files to or from the xbox

You may also want to check that your card and xbox are set to the same duplex setting.  Using Evox you can view the duplex your xbox is running at.  For some reason my Xbox decided it just liked half duplex better than full - not sure why I have a cross over running straight into a nic set for full duplex.  Due to the xbox being in half duplex (the mystery I am currently trying to figure out) I put the nic in half duplex and i get speeds of 4,000-5,000 kBps but i was getting twice this when both were in full duplex, I just don't know how to force the xbox into full duplex.

I think the speed is also dependant on the HDD (all cabling issues aside). In my tests, I found that uploading to the 5400rpm 80GB drive in my Xbox is anywhere from 30-50Mbps. Downloads to my PC from the XBox (I have a Seagate Barracuda IV 7200rpm HDD) average anywhere from 50-70Mbps.

Both devices are connected 100Mb-Full Duplex to a SMC Barricade router. I'm using Windows 2000 SP3 with a 3com 3c905b. Considering the consistency between the upload and download speeds, I'm inclined to believe the HDD factors into the speeds.
