How about some more info...

Did you replace the ms dashboard on the hard drive?

Does the dashboard still boot with no media in?

What specific error are you getting?

i didnt even set evoX up..just tried to boot the evoX and it didnt boot..it looked like it was going to boot..went to the xbox screen, but then kicked me back to the ms dashboard. After that nothing at all would boot..my friend has all my original games since he doesnt have a chip so i havent tested those yet. i get a dirty disc error. also when i try and play a pal xbox game on my ntsc machine it says wrong region disc when it played fine before. i have also tried disconnecting the power cable but no luck. another wierd thing is when i do unplug the power cord the xbox doesnt ask me to reset the time like it usually does. thanks for your replies guys, i appreciate it..any other suggestions or info ?

Well I tried setting the time earlier to no avail, but i gave it one last shot.unplugged the xbox , rest the time, and walla, everything works fine now. Wonder why the time affects the xbox like that. Thanks for all your help guys.

I have no idea how setting the time fixes things, but it seems to fix problems fairly often. weird, huh?

something is very odd..seems like if i power down my xbox for more than say 15 minutes, i have to unplug the power cord, reset the time even though it doesnt ask, and then a backup will boot. This method works about 75% of the time. maybe the internal clock is fucked up? any ideas what the prob could be?
