One thing what could be the problem is that the harddrive needs too much power from the powersupply, and that the powersupply can't deliver enough power to the hdd, then it's possible that you receive such strange things.

Actually, it could be the problem. A flkey power supply can cause lots of freaky unknown problems. I had a HD that worked fine until I put a heavy load on it. Swapped the power suppy with a newer, better one and everything was fine.

It may have a "burst" mode or something that kicks in and requires more power. The XBox power supply isn't really the best. Anyone tried modding in a good 300-400 watt Power supply? Might crank the heat up, though..

with the case on, i was able to ftp about 60 gigs without any problems. I had two lockups during 1.5 hrs of gameplay..

I *think* this is better than I've seen, but still inconclusive. I actually have a fan attachment coming from Lik-Sang, we'll see how that works. May mess with some different cables while I'm at it..

It is a flakey error, I have about 10 games on my 120GB 5400RPM drive and I could be playing it for hours or for minutes and 9 games work flawlessly and Dead to Rights always crashes. Definetly flakey and not heat or power supply related. Maybe a file gets minorly f'ed in the transferring.

has anyone tried the new tutorial about modding the box to allow the HD to work out side of the box?

if you put the HD in a cooled HD case and had it outside of the box, wouldn't that eliminate any issues with heat (if it were an issue) that might be causing this?
