Xbplayer Xstream And Wxstream Help!
« on: August 06, 2002, 05:17:00 PM »

allright. need some help here. i have xbplayer installed on my xbox hd, have the config file set to my pc's ip address. no problem. i have m$ .net framework installed on my pc. installed xstream. no problem. go into the dos prompt, 'net start xstream', the service starts. i edited my xstream config file to point to my movies directory on my pc's hd. go and launch xbplayer off my evoX dash, and it loads up. (btw i'm using xbplayer beta 5) it loads up with 'searching for xstream servers'. then it loads to the menu screen, with NO files present. i do not know why my files are not loading up. so then i quit out, stopped my net stream service, and started with wxstream. it is listening on port 1400, i load up my files into the playlist directory, and start up xbplayer. again, nothing. what am i doing wrong? i have my xbox connected to my pc directly via crossover cable. if i load up movies into the xplayer\media\video directory on my xbox hd, it will launch no problem. but my purpose in using xbplayer is to stream movies directly from my pc to my xbox. please, anyone help me out. thanks.

Did you set up a DHCP-server on your PC? Even though you can statically define an IP in EvoX you need the DHCP for XBMP. I recommend using ONLY DHCP for your xbox (including evox) so you know it works, and configuring a stattic mapping for your XBOX' MAC with the desired IP adress. Alternatively make the scope have only one IP-address.

Use the xstream console to see if it connects.

Also; it seems my Win XP sometimes fucks up when I use an xover-cable cause it keeps disabling and enabling my network card every time I reset my xbox. Using a hub/switch would solve this (as the PC would always have "link".), but I'm sture theres a way to disable automatic detection of network in XP like you could in..was it 2000 or WinME?..

I have my network set up like this:
NIC (network card) - XOVER - XBOX
TurboDHCP (was what I found first, I'd be happy to take recomendations.. if you're running XP Server use the build in)
IP adresses: 10.1.1.2 on the PC, 10.1.1.10 on the xbox (easy to key in if you have to), default gateway is 10.1.1.1.

DHCP scope set to 10.1.1.10-19. After booting up the XBOX I went into "Reservations" and chose "Convert to stattic" or similar.

Works like a charm most of the times. Problems I've had witch I blame XPs autonetwork detect is:
- PC set to 100/Full Duplex, XBOX is half duplex (FTP is *REALLY* slow, but works)
- DHCP sometimes does not work
- No IP on the PC network card (selecting "Repair" fixes this)

Hope this helps. Good luck!

CODE
Listening on port 1400
Connected to 192.168.0.114
Accepting connection
Unknown Command: HELLO XSTREAM 5.0

If i keep wxstream running, but restart xbmp using the L+R+Black combo, it connects once again, then the listing does take place and then it disconnects.
CODE
Connected to 192.168.0.114
Accepting connection
Listing files
Disconnected from 192.168.0.114

I can now toggle to remote listing but its empty.
I played all evening w/ it but never couldnt list any remote movie.
