I know there is a topic on what game works and what games doesn't.  
I'm looking for specific info on getting Max Payne to work.  Some have had no problem and some havent been able to get it to work.

I have tried the px-maxp and a copy directly from cd.  I have also placed it in f:\games\maxp and f:\maxp.  I even ran the xboxcrk program.  Nothing worked.  

I can play for a short time ( 2 - 3 minutes if that ) and it just locks up.

Any thoughts?

How full is your hd?

I'm finding the more full my hd gets, the more buggy my games get...

I have a 120hd with 60 used.

I have also tried to switch from NTSC to PAL.  Did not work.

did you try the beta patcher?  it seems people have been getting lock ups when they were using betas, but they just needed to patch it

tried no luck.

Sometimes the games plays for a little bit and sometimes it just hanges after a couple of minutes

Sounds like a bad rip or it could be a heat issue with the hard disc...  if you ripped it from an original yourself, then try running your box without a lid and see if it locks...- I've got the original cd (not a copy of it), and I ripped it and dumped it into a games folder - plays fine with no lockups.

Well it seems to work fine now.  I didn't do anything other then add more games to the hard drive.  by the way 120gb sure fills up fast.

I bet my 80gb would fill up pretty quick if they had a game freedom pass here...... franchise bastards

But...... i honestly cant think of 10 games that are worth keeping

How many games do you have on your 120 gb hard drive, and is it a 7200 rpm?

I have around 40 and yes it is a 7200.

I purchased the WD120gb drive.  No problems with heat and it has been left on over night.  my friend purchased a IBM120gb drive and that drive got seriously hot.  So much so that transfering games just froze.  After I removed the cover and left it off all problems seemed to disapear.

That is my current game list for what's on my 120g IBM 7200.  We have all night HALO tournies and have never had an issue with freezes, heat, nodda.  My kid plays the thing 12 hours a day too and never had a problem of any kind.

after seeing lager's post you just wonder why some people don't swap out the hard drive.  Hell, swap out and buy a second xbox later on in life if you need ms specific.  I just got sick and tired of trying to get the darn games to load.  Even purchased games take forever.  and people complained about dreamcast.  please.  

a moded xbox with the hdd swap is the only way to go.
