Evolutionx W/ 2 Hds.... Is This Possible At All?
« on: July 31, 2002, 01:10:00 AM »

Well, I'm seriously considering buying an Xbox with a modchip after seeing everything that's out there (EvoX, MAME-X, etc), but I have a couple questions. For one, is the PC-BioXX a good modchip for the XBox? I like the fact that you can reflash it with a new bios w/ a printer cable and a comp if you need to, which makes it VERY open-ended. And for two, is there any way at all to have more than one harddrive in the Xbox and have the system actually recognize both? When I say any way at all, I mean daisy-chained, rackmount, external means, etc.
Well, hope I didn't sound too much like a newb. =-)
See ya'll

Well, came to the conclusion that installing a 'hot-swappable' HD kit into the XBox would be the best idea.... sure, you have to carve a slot out of the front of the Xbox case (and oh so conveniently removing the fourth reich's tag located on the front of the case =-), but in the end, it'd be cheaper than buying DVD-Rs or DVD-RWs (the swap kit itself costs $15 bucks US at http://www.amtrade.c...ovable_rack.htm ). I _think_ that's the entire kit, but it sounds a little like it only includes the 'case' for the HD, and not the rack itself. Haven't had time to confirm either way, but the word 'kit' seems to imply that it comes with both.
Anyone else have a better idea/flame/etc? Other ideas would rule....

BTW, no one's answered my second question.... is the PC-BioXX gonna be worth it? Like I said before, the whole idea of being able to replace the BIOs rules. If M$ made a protection scheme, I could simply surf IRC until I found the updated EvoX bios (for example) that defeats it, whereas with most other solutions, I'd be stuck with it until I desolder and reinstall another modchip..... besides, EvoX is the only BIOs that supports a larger harddrive, if I'm correct. =-)
