Goofed Up Menu.ini... Xbox Won't Boot.

Oh yeah, I did the tweak on my DVD drive... could that be effecting it?  Nothing will boot... not even original xbox games.

I did that to mine too.  Pissed me off.

If you put an original game in it and then power on, will it load?

I built an evolutionx iso with the original menu.ini in it and burnt that to a CD-R.  Then, hooked a cd-rom to the xbox (I think there's a tutorial for that) and it booted fine.

It had to be an xbox iso though - I couldn't get it to work by just burning the disc straight with nero.

I would have to say your problem is not with your software, it's with your tweaking... Step 1 would be to reverse whatever it is you did to your drive.

yeah, messed up menu.ini is a pain...alls you need to do is boot up with evo-x on a disc, ftp in, and nuke the pos menu.ini.  it's very logical, but i was stumped for a bit too, cause it wasn't booting off my disc...turned out that for some reason, my system was no longer recognizing the disc (cd-rw...initially installed evo-x with this disc too!)...booted up with evo-x on dvd-rw...boom!  so, if it doesn't seem to be booting off a disc, try another disc, different media, etc...

Hey...
First off.  You say you cannot even boot off a evo DISK ?

Ok ... are you using media that works?
YES?  Good.  if not find one.

2nd.  Burn Evo on disk WITH A NEW MENU.ini file!
If you put the menu.ini file IN with evo ON A DISK..it will boot fine.

Right now you probably have the menu.ini on your c:  ??
If so this is why it will constantly do what it is doing...(whatever you did to that menu.ini)
Hence evo boot disk will ALSO use that ini file on hard drive.  BUT if it is on the boot disk it will use that by default and will boot up fine ALLOWING you to ftp and erase or change the menu.ini file on your HD.

I also had problems with the evo disk....my date and time is always needing to be set because I leave unplugged alot.
anyway for me,
I do not use evo dashboard because of the date/time issue.
I made 2 folders called   GAMES and APPS on the e:
Now whatever you put in those drives will AUTOMATICALLY be shown in evolution menu.
(for apps different issue) but for games I just make a folder in GAMES like halo and drop in the default.xbe and game folders...

This way I do not mess with the menu.ini file (cuz I suck lol)
But good thing to know is put the menu.ini file on the boot disk (extract the evo boot disk and add the menu.ini file the original one...then remake the xiso) and evo will use that one and overide the one on hard drive.

hope this helps.

Well, I tried that, and it brings me to a screen that says "Your Xbox requires service.  Please call Xbox Customer Support"

So if I zero out my hdd and repartition it... it should work, right?  Without flashing the BIOS cuz it's the right size drive?
