I checked their website and they have an external kit so you don't have to buy a mini tower or do a elaborate install.

I've considered doing the same thing, and it should work. You just have to format each drive using the methods described in this board (which necessitates having one of the newest mod chips, or flashing your xbox bios with evox 2.2). So you'll end up having the same partitions on each drive, with the same files in some of those partitions. As long as you have a complete xbox "c drive" copy on each of those drives, you should be able to boot up fine, using EvolutionX to decide which games/movies/apps to play. With that external drive tower, all you'd have to do is hang a long IDE cable out of the xbox and then find a way to power the drives.

I would go the route with refitting the xbox internals in a PC case.

Otherwise, IDE cable specs would be out of line with an external switcher. What is max cable length on UDMA33 24 inches?

No, it won't work.. I have a 160gb drive in my xbox and it only recognizes about 137gb of it, that's becuase the bios is limited to 137gb or something like that, either way 3 drives striped is the same as 1 biggun, and you'll get 137 just like me.

yeah, so at any one time, you could only use 1 120GB HD. If you wanted to use the others you'd have to hit the switch and reboot.

Well some places harddrives are much cheaper than cd-r because of taxes! I sure would like a 3 hdd swap. one with games and two with all my dvd movies ripped to divx with ac3. I would never have to go fetch movies or games anymore and search through piles of discs. eaze not to mention speed

H*ll, if you are going through all that trouble, just use a removable IDE drive bay (especially if you are going to put it in a PC case). Since you have to get up of your arse to reboot the xb you might as well swap hard disks. This system will give you

1. unlimited disk storage space
2. can use different size drives
3. move the drive back to the PC (same removable drive bay) and use a utility to play with it
4. no downtime, when these harddisks start to crash

I have solved that problem. I soldered two wires to the back of the power switch and ran it back to my chair. You have to remove everything from the XBOX including the metal shielding but it is worth it if you are as lazy as me

I also have a removable drive bay sitting on top of my XBOX along with my PC-DVD drive.

BTW - If you do this make sure to use a momentary switch. If you use a regular on/off swith you may damage your box.

BTW BTW, can you do the same thing with the disc eject drive?

I could post a tutorial but remember I'm lazy.

It is very easy to do, you just need a meter to test for a short as you push the power button. This will let you know you have the correct points. Just be aware that you have to remove everything including the power supply and metal shielding.

I'm sure you can put a swith on the eject button - the points for it are even easier to access. I'm not sure why you would want to though because if you have to switch a disk you are right there anyways.

That one sounds extremly nice!

To the one who asked why we would like to reset from the sofa thru the DVD or some other device:

If you have EvoX and have the games on the HD you have to shutdown/reset the Xbox to get back to the EvoX Dashboard to boot another game.

The most optional thing would to have that AV pack above conencted to the reset device and then attach a IR to the device so that you can reset the Xbox with a remote control.

If someone know how to do this or where to buy the AV pack thing. Please tell me.

Drive bay swap seems like one heck of an idea.

I just dont like the thought of cutting the case - if only someone makes some homebrew software that lets a drive be accessed through the memory slot of the control pad.

Or even a hard disk with an adaptor that is plugged into the controller port.

That would be sheer coolness.

_Dont_ think that will happen. I was planning on buying that drive shit. But when I saw that its so big i rather buy a new Xbox and get one more controller and have them side by side.
