If it's an Xbox DVD drive, you just plug it in.  That's it.  You didn't find any information on this before posting?

Yes you can swap the drive with one from *any* xbox.  But you should know that all versions of the xbox are the same DVD-wise - a 1.1 or 1.2 xbox may still have a thompson, and if so, it won't be any different/ better than a thompson from a 1.0 xbox...
