Replacement Cases?
« on: December 07, 2004, 07:24:00 AM »

Well, I'm sick of my boring old black xbox, I 'm too afraid to paint it, and I don't want those crappy skins.  I think I'm going to buy one of those clear replacement cases.  Has anyone else installed one?  If so, here are some questions for you.

Are they easy to install?
Is the plastic quality as good as the original xbox case?
Does everything in the xbox come out of the case easily?
Where did you buy yours?

Thanks.

Sorry if this is the wrong forum, Hardware chat was the closest thing I could find to my question.

This should be in the case modding section. Anywho, I bought a clear green Le case (the halo edition one). With those cheapo clear replacement cases, you just get a crappy top made out of cheap thin plastic. I've seen those for about $40-50 (I think). I paid $60 for my case on ebay.

If you want a good clear case, I would look at the Crystal xbox case (Its exactly the same quality as the regular black case, just clear). Or you get a Xpod case, with is a different design, but is a clear acrylic case, they run for around $70 (once again, I think).

Having built 2 xpod's myself, I can definitely say that an xpod is harder to build than a clear case replacement that is the same shape as the original case.

The xpod assembly sequence is trickier, and you have to buy at least one 80mm fan.

Also with the Xpod you can't mount a certain variations philips DVD drive.  However, the xpod does give you more room around the components and the ability to mount *2* hard drives without extensive case modding.

this post should be in the case modding section of the forums..but just to give you some ideas, buy a crystal case on ebay (round$75) or get as clear (colored case) from a place like ps2fliptops.com ...i bought one from there and its borderline cheapo but it serves its purpose..they have em in 4 or 5 colors and *clear* and they start around $35 ...good luck

About the cheapo clear cases.. are they worth getting?  I mainly just want my xbox to look good without having to spend a fortune on a licensed case.  I've found the cheap ones for $30 (US).  Krusty, how thin are they?  Are they easy to bust?  LMK

Here's a suggestion. You said you were too afraid to paint your case. Why? Because you might mess it up? Instead you want to buy a new one. Why not try and paint it and if you do mess up then buy a new one. If you don't mess up then you saved your self the cost of a new case and you can say you did it yourself.

My Philly was from a late 1.0. The cases are usally kinda off anyways...most of them are actually kind of awkward to get on without feeling like its going to break..nice effect...but cheap design....
Which site did you order from...and if there is a connectivity issue the site needs to verify that
