Unopened Xbox Problems. Help Me!
« on: November 30, 2004, 09:59:00 PM »

Hey. I have an unmodded stock Xbox have had it for 3 months.

On and off for a month now i am getting these damm green/red flashing and orange flashing.

Yes, i have read about the errors.

I turn it on, green flash off.  On orange flashes, off. On orange flashes stays on for 10min.

Even after 48 hours same thing happens. After like 5 times of letting it complete that 10min its good to go again.

Sometimes, I turn it on, flashes green, off. On flashes green, off. On flashes green and red until i shut it off.

I have borrowed a friend's A/V Cable and same thing.

Help?  :P

Its overheating, check if the fan still runs and make sure air can get to it

there is no way its overheating. I sometimes get that problem after 5 min of play.

Overheating is honestly out of the question. The fan runs perfectly fine.

I am gonna replace the fan this weekend with a much quieter better fan.

Any other ideas?

GREEN/RED Flashing:
Probably a bad chip or bad image.

How could I have a bad chip or bad image?

ORANGE Flashing:
This may also be down to a solder splash on the board or a damaged track. May also be due overheating.

Not overheating.

I have been told that you can't havea solder splash on the board or a damaged track unless it has been opened before.

Once again I state.  "UNOPENED X-Box"  :P

Are you sure it wasn't purchased, opened, modded, f'd up, returned, repackaged at store and then you bought it "as new"?  If you didn't grab it yourself off of the assembly line, there's always that possibility.

If it were me, I would contact MS directly.  Warranty or not, they should fix it if you bought it new and it has been exhibiting these problems after only a few months.

Alternatively, you could take it back to Costco and talk to a manager.  Tell him/her that you believe you purchased an opened Xbox because it is fragging (explain to them what fragging is - tell them MS told you about fragging).  If you have to, lie and tell them that you sent it to MS for repairs or replacement and that they sent it back saying that the box had been opened before.  Then claim that you didn't open it and wouldn't even know how to.  Play dumb.

Or, you could buy a modchip and solve your problem yourself, for a little cash.  There may be an installer in your area who could help.  Check the forum "...Installers" for someone in your area.

Thanks for your input. I appreciate it.

Funny thing happened yesterday. Got a Y-Splitter for power and added a new fan on the back. Left it on for 5 hours playing and then 10 hours overnight.

Now, no problems. Weird huh? I also checked out the motherboard. Nothing looked wrong at all. I even looked at common spots.

I think I'm going to buy that heatsink for the nvidia MXPX or w/e its called. That is supposed to be the majority of the overheating problems?!?!

Thanks again!
