I got a free xbox with a fried thomson drive(score) so I modded it.
I thought this would be easy to get up and running as a movie player/game backup only machine.

I bought a 616e for 20 bucks on newegg.com(refurb)
I found the disk ready point, along with trin, trout, and eject points(latter three were printed on the board)

still have problems with tray open not going away. My guess is trout/trin/ready need the correct voltage.

My guess for dvd player to be happy

xbox scene tut

trin-5v (when tray in reads 5v)(0-out)
trout-0v (when tray out reads 5v)(0-in)
ready-0V(when disk in drive) found it furthest left pin on laser cable connection to main board)

I have tried all combinations for example
trin and ready connected together. this gives me the above requirements but my evox says open for drive status. errrrr spent 4 hours playing with it. Read all the tuts, I could practically write a tutorial for 616e.  need a hand

right what you need to do is take the drive out :9 (i know) then plug it into a pc and let it load windows put a dvd in the tray and watch.... now turn off the pc and put it into the xbox u will find it now works

All it need is a region code!!! xbox gets confused when a drive has no region code and wont play

dsrice, did you get it working then?

Maybe you can write a tutorial about how to mod the 616e.
At least a picture or a description of the solder points would be fine.
