Add A New Hard On Xbox With Dead Dvd
« on: June 11, 2004, 06:53:00 AM »

I have a modded (xenium) xbox with a dead dvd-rom drive. I would rather spend the money on a new hard drive then a new dvd-rom. I still have access to the stock hard drive with ftp. Is this possible?

Does your Xbox still boot the stock HDD and get to the dashboard even though the DVD-ROM is 'dead' ?

I see where you are going with this...

To the original poster...

YES...

If you have Evolution-X setup as the default dash on the old drive and can get to it here is what you can do.

Ghost the old drive to the new drive using RAW mode.

This will screw up the contents of F:\ but it WILL pick up C:\, E:\ which is what you want.

Put the new drive in the machine and it should boot up to the Evolution-X default dash.

From there you can reformat JUST the F:\ partition to set it up again.

Note however, your machine will be in a somewhat "vulnerable" state.

If you screw up the dash you will not be able to recover unless you temporarily install a PC DVD reader.

You may want to make sure that you have the MODCHIP/TSOP flashed with a DVD bios that skips the MS Drive check so that you can always swap in a PC drive in an emergency.
