Crystal Edition Xbox Info (version 1.6?)
« Reply #225 on: March 26, 2004, 08:45:00 AM »

Right Boys and Girls, I have just got my crystal box home, tested it for five minutes and now its in bits!  Details as follows

Built: 31/1/2004 (i'm british thats the way it should be:-p )
Kernel 5713
Graphics Encoder: Focus
DVD:  Phillips VAD6035/21
HDD:  WD 8 gig (tight b*****ds)
Its a 1.4

It does have this SUNON fan too, and although I agree it's a bit louder than others, its not bad.  Still going to get a blue lit one though and go at it with a hack saw!

The biggest problem...  The man in the shop made me walk through town with it in a playstaion bag.  I was not happy!

Right now i am off to mod the bugger, question is do I homebrew or Tsop?  hmm....

the original C:-drive had to be copied to the new disk for the box to work after the installation.
Anyone know why?

As has been written two times in this thread already, new kernels require new dashboards.

Is reading before posting that difficult?

Interesting...

Last I knew, all dashboards could be used with every different kernel version...

It was covered on page 3 in this thread, but maybe it needs to hit the front page. It does mean the new boxes can't be softmodded.

I'd still like to see pictures of the v1.6 motherboard ...

wink.gif )

I'd tried everything to get this baby to boot into evox.  EVERYTHING.  Could I do it?  no.

The chip was installed proper like, the bios shows up, and then... it kicked into the MS dash.  Even after slayers disk has done its thing.

(btw, I installed slayers on the original HD (I did make a backup before-hand) and that manages to boot in ok.  I just kept asking myself what exactly was I doing wrong?)

SO: I went back and made a copy of the old HD (as has apparently been mentioned a couple of times in this thread) using: http://www.xbox-scen...dd-install2.php

Still nothing.  Infact, all I got was error 13 on the new drive.  :|  Even after using slayer's disk again.

I told my mate his xbox would be up and running last night, and now I've (still) got a stinking headache and my l33tness is looking thinner than ever before.  Still better late than never biggrin.gif

Anyhow, cut a long story short, I used the bootable CD I'd made using the tutorial, and with a bit of fore-though on my part, had already set a fixed IP - which allowed me to ftp in via my computer and manually move the contents of the (backed up) C drive.

Ta daa.... one working modded crystal xbox.  Now to upload 46 gigs worth of games.. heh...

Bastard thing  tongue.gif

NEVER LET THE MACHINES WIN - there is always a way.

Zobbster, thanks very much for the info. However, i do not understand 100% what it is you did to get it working.

A mate of mine is having the same problem. He installed the Xcuter Bios and is getting error 13. When  the bios is off, it goes into MS dash.

he has a bootable slayer cd, so would really appreciate a step by step on how to get it working.

Thanks mate,

Could the kids who don't understand how to install dashboards please move to another thread? Your problems have nothing to do with a possible v1.6 - nor are they problems at all if you understood anything about what you were doing instead of using pre-made tools.

Really.

The newest kernel does not allow old dashbards. That's it. Now let's get back to the rumours about an XLB videochip - can bourke please supply us with photos?

I just thought i should post because on reading this thread i find that a lot of people are having problems modding and upgrading the hdd in the crystal, ive done 3 so far and have had absolutely no problems with any of them, i even use the M$dash from my 1.2 xbox and it works absolutely fine. I didnt use anything from the original HDD at all.

The three i have had have the following:

Philips Drive
Focus video encoder
seagate 10gb hdds
winbond flash

Hi all. I recently got my crystal xbox but still haven't had the time to open it. However the BIOS version is 5713. Does that indicate its a 1.6?

I'd appreciate some feedback. Thanks.

For some reason my previous post didn't make it, so here goes again:

Answering to myself, for anyone interested:
My xbox is v1.4 with the following:

mfg date: 31-01-2004
s/n: 2NNNNNN YWW05
HDD is the white 10 Gb Seagate
DVD is the evil Philips 6035.
As I mentioned before, BIOS is the new 5713.

KYXX: My guess is yours is a v1.4 also. However, different production lines (2 vs 3) could potentially produce major configuration variations.

I would greatly appreciate if someone provided some pointers for a recommended course of action. Should I install a mod-chip or TSOP flash (is that possible with the new BIOS?) Also, any info on the DVD drive, which is not supposed to read DVD-Rs? I checked out the appropriate forum, but -no offence it was ambiguous at best.

Thanks

biggrin.gif

Team Xecuter sent an NFO file with their last bios saying it will be the last made for the X2 chips.   dry.gif

Becuase of the big deal they made about the bios being "The Last". does this mean that the X2 chips will not be compatible with the X3 bios's similar to the SmatXX chips private OS.   sad.gif

Basically: will we all need to upgrade our chips when the X3 comes out in order to play Halo 2 backups since it will probibly need a new bios knowing M$?  grr.gif  grr.gif  grr.gif  lurk.gif
