Tell the idiot who modded your box that he shouldn't try to play with stuff he doesn't understand - and get someone who knows more to fix the configuration of your box.

EvoX also sets the time of the box if it's connected to the Internet at boot - so, hook it up.

What all this has to do with Crystal-boxes and a possible v1.6 I don't understand though ...

biggrin.gif and the noise is just terrible!!! ohmy.gif

I haven't opened it yet, but is the noise coming from the 60 mm fan in the back or has this version also a fan on the GPU, I heard that there are versions with and without GPU fans....

Only 1.0's had a gpu fan. Oh and just to be picky...   its an 80mm fan in the back.

Maybe there aren't many 1.6 boards out there yet.  There was one guy on these forums who had a Focus encoder (see mnemonico's post here), reported on 16th July 2003.  It didn't get a mention on the Xbox-Scene news page until three weeks later (6th August).  Team Xecuter didn't start playing with them until five weeks after that (12th September).  The first hacked BIOS (EvoX M7) was released on 20th September.
Maybe the 1.6 that's been spotted was one of these early machines.  Perhaps M$ drop a few into the supply chain to see if they work, before switching over to mass production?

The upshot being that mnemonico had a Focus chip 3 weeks before anyone else noticed, and had to wait two months for a BIOS.

Exobex: Your timing is WAY off on v1.4 - there were actually machines in Brazil with the Focus chip half a year before they were spotted in Europe .. !

Team X-ecuter did no work at all on v1.4, they were totally asleep through that time. I take the credit for analyzing the difference and the need for a modbios made from the new kernel on that actually .. EvoX did the actual bios-patching work, and (sorry, forgot his name) someone in Asia worked out what differed a v1.5 from a v1.4.

Team X-ecuter had had v1.5-boards since months and had done nothing.

Ah, I didn't know about those early ones.  Looks like Focus chips were gradually phased in, either that or a batch was shipped out to see if they worked properly, before switching over to Focus-equipped boxes full time.

If that's the case, hopefully itll be a while before the XLB boxes become widespread.

Credit where credit's due then, Troed.  Well done.

Why do you have to cut the corners of a 80 mm fan when you want to install a 80 instead of the original one??

If the original one is also a 80 mm why are there tutorials "how to mod a 80 mm fan into place"

 Because it's not a standard 80mm fan.
The corner mountings of an Xbox fan are non-standard.  You've got clips and things where you should have screw holes.

Thats what i intend to do tomorrow, when the crystal is released in the UK.

Oh and thanks Exobex for backing me up!  Probably going to replace it whatever the fan is.  A nice blue or green lit one should look nice in the clear case.

just got my crystal xbox modded and hooked up. It's a version 1.4, haf a WD-disk and a phillips DVD-rom that reads all the CD-R's, CDRW, and DVDR's I've tried.
It's modded with a Aladdin advance + chip.
One interesting thing happened during modding. the original C:-drive had to be copied to the new disk for the box to work after the installation.
Anyone know why?

As has been written two times in this thread already, new kernels require new dashboards.

Is reading before posting that difficult?

Modified my first Halo Green Special Edition XBox tonight, I'm in New Zealand, XBox was v1.4 layout motherboard, Focus encoder, new Phillips 6035/21 ROM & thin white seagate HDD.

Manufacture date: 2004-01-28
Serial: 5003xxx 40505.

No dramas here, standard ground and voltage points available on LPC, although the top of the mobo had a green lacquer over most VIA points as others have noticed on their crystal boxes.

As I'm getting sick of telling my customers with Halo green boxes I may not be able to modify them because of the supposed new XLB encoder, can we have a confirmation as to the existence of the v1.6?

Bourke, stop being a typical aussie and share some more.

Interesting...

Last I knew, all dashboards could be used with every different kernel version...
