Well, at least on the Crystal white box I got my hands on it has the good old Focus FS454..

So it's build on line 2 of factory 05 on February 2nd 2004.

I would really like to see some pictures of the board and video encoder of that "1.6 box"..

The board on that crystal box I got my hands on isn't even 1.5. It's 1.4 with GND and 3.3V in place on the LPC header. I also tested Xecuter 2.3B Lite Plus with it and it worked beautifully, as expected.

 Thank you - you just saved me the expense of getting a Crystal white from that exact same date (I was about to do that).

The first one to buy a crystal white with the XLB videoencoder and tell the rest of us the manufacturing date wins a ... hmm ... faster modification of his/her own console.

It's not only the date that counts. The box that bourke has is older (2004-01-28) but it's manufactured on line 5 while mine is manufactured on line 2. I guess the ones manufactured on 2004-02-02 on line 5 are probably 1.6 too.

 While that is true, I have yet to see two Xboxes with the same mfg-date but with different internals (including hd, dvd-rom etc) myself personally.

(There are a few, but _very_ few, such entries listed at http://xbox-linux.sourceforge.net/docs/versionsdb.html though)

Holy shit, Grez how did you get your Crystal early? I was told they came out on the 14th and mine would ship the 15th.

Specifications :

- Focus video encoder
- DVD drive is a Philips
- HDD is a Seagate 10GB
- Serial number begin with 40505
- Manufactured date : 2004-01-29

 Well, I have personal experience of boxes that I thought had Samsung since I already had a box made that same day with Samsung, but had Thomson instead. The other ones made on the same line then again had Samsungs. They also had a differenct version of the motherboard.

Well so now we know a few things:
1) Not all (maybe only few) crystal xbox's are really 1.6
2) HDD isn't 20 GB as many reports claimed

BTW how could it come out on the 14th, that's a sunday. It's quite obvious that it's supposed to be released on monday and maybe some stores sell it in advance. Better not tell M$ :)

Kind of off-topic, but if the Crystal Xbox is using a non-nvidia video chip (the Focus), then what is stopping MS from implementing this (or similar) chip in the xbox2 to remain backward compatible?
