Crystal Edition Xbox Info (version 1.6?)
« Reply #255 on: April 11, 2004, 09:50:00 AM »

I must say one good thing about this new Crystal compared to my old V1.0. (actually any and all newer Xboxes) this thing is SOOOO quiet compared to my old system. I can not even hear it running. but I may do the 12V fan mod, just because the CPU is hitting temps of 141F.

IF I had realized they were that much quieter I would have bought a replacement long ago.

KDLondon, the week your box was manufactured seems a bit risky, since Exobex said he's seen some 1.6 from then. I am really beginning to think however, that 1.6s are extremely rare and almost all Crystals are 1.4s with Focus.

I've just edited my earlier post for clarity.

I'd come across four CRYSTAL Xboxes, not four 1.6's!

Thankfully I haven't come across any of the 1.6 boards yet.  II say thankfully, because I've been doing these machines pretty much on autopilot, and keep forgetting to check what encoder they have!

Ok I have to take back what I said earlier about my Phillips drive. As of about 10 minutes ago it started reading CD-Rs. Really wierd thing is that the disks I tried in it on Friday, were unreadable, but tonight they are?!?!?!

Goofy a$$ quirk. Anyways take this as you will. Maybe I got hurried and did something wrong, I don't know. I have modded a few Xboxes before, so... crazy. All I can say.

I have just opened my spanking new green Crystal Limited Edition Xbox to discover neither a Connexant nor a Focus video chip :-(

Instead I am faced with an 'XLB' logo that has me in tears...

How long do you think it will be before the Evolution-X crew release the 'M8' bios?

OK I have a question about exactly which XBox you have because what you have said names two separate XBoxes... there is the
European Limited Crystal Edition which is clear white and the
XBox special Halo edition which is clear green.

I think everyone on this thread believes you are talking about the European Limited Crystal Edition when you are actually talking about the Halo Special edition

I just purchased the special Halo edition for my second XBox (the green one), so I'm wondering exactly which one you have, and if anyone has any reports on version numbers for the Halo edition.

Who's been saying that the Philips drive is good?  It's shite, only not as shite as the Thomson TGM600.

You could've just swapped drives with your brother, and kept the crystal box.

I've seen two thomson drives.  One was from 07/2003, the other from 10/2002.  The newer one read 'most cdr's perfectly (Never found an rw that didn't work).
The older one never read a disk other than an original DVD

OK finally got round to opening it up - I've been away!

I've got a SUNON fan, a Philips drive and a Western Digital hard drive.  Not sure how large.

So I guess I'm 1.4'd up...

Got my Clear crystal a couple days ago. hope the info helps:

Serial/Date
2004-02-15
300xxxx 40805

BIOS
K 1.00.5713.01
D 1.00.5659.03

Philips DVD VAD6035/21 - built Jan 04, must be the latest dvd drive, no?
Reads = all TDK CD-Rs I have (7 diff types), Emtek
did not read = Verbatim, Kodak, Datastream, Imation and a few el cheapo clear ones.
pretty good, the dvd drive read 90% of my audio cd collection, bar some randoms

WD Protege 8GB WD80EB-28CGH2 - built 22 jan 04, slightly slower then the samsungs?

Focus Video chipset or whatever

NOISY ASS SUNON fan. christ its loud :o

from the info, plus its got a heatsink and a double lined power connector plug thing, I believe its either a v1.4 or 1.5, but i dont have/could work a multimedia to save me own life.

im guessing i have same as everyone so far 1.4

dont guess mate it is a 1.4 it's got a focus chip in it.

Has there been any sightings of the alleged 1.6 Euro Crystal in australia, i want to buy one because of the 1.4 but if it has a 1.6 in it then i'm not gonna bother.
