Crystal Edition Xbox Info (version 1.6?)
« Reply #241 on: April 07, 2004, 05:07:00 AM »

hey guys, I just got my crystal XBOX yesterday and I saw the manufacture date and it looked fairly new, so I thought "this'd better not be a 1.6". Now I had a look at which bios I have and it seems to be the same as bourke's (K:1.00.5713.1). Now I would open her up, but I don't have the right screwdrivers yet, so I have a feeling mine might be a 1.6, but I'm not sure, as I'm a bit of a newb when it comes to this. So I'm asking you guys, is mine a 1.6, or do I have to open it up first?
BTW, serial is 4073xxx 40805  and Manufacturing date is 14/2/04, and I got it from Toys R Us in Derby (in England)

I've come across 4 Crystal Xboxes so far, but they were 40605 (a fortnight older).  I don't think any 1.6s have surfaced over here yet.

I'm going to go get some torx screwdrivers from Maplins in a bit, but is there any way that I could open up my box to have a look without invalidating my warranty? I've had a look round, but they all seem to say you have to invalidate it. Could I just like heat it up with a hairdryer?

laugh.gif Upon opening up my brand new box (being the first time I've ever even opened up a console) I was relieved to find a Focus chip, but I do still have the same bios as bourke it would seem

Just got my Crystal.  Not opened it yet, waiting for my Torx screwdrivers off eBay.  I've got a date of 2004-02-06 and Serial is 3096xxx 40605.  Not seen one similar to that in this thread.  I have an Xecuter 2.3 PRO to install.

Not done this yet, and I'll advise what I have inside when I've opened it up, but there's no gotcha's I should know about now / for the future with this box and chip is there?

I'll be able to upgrade to a 160 / 200 + hard drive I presume, the old 137GB limit now not a factor?

I have a Netgear Wireless Router, I'm guessing I'll need a Wireless Ethernet Bridge to wirelessly network everything together?  Actually, thats probably not for this thread...

Thanks for your help.

You'll be fine as long as you use a BIOS that has the LBA48 patch.
Run EvoX M7 EjectFix through XBtool and you'll be fine.  Alternatively you can use X2 4983.06 (for a really big F) or 4983.67 (for a big F and a big G), assuming that it's not riddled with bugs this time.

KDLondon, the week your box was manufactured seems a bit risky, since Exobex said he's seen some 1.6 from then. I am really beginning to think however, that 1.6s are extremely rare and almost all Crystals are 1.4s with Focus.

As long as the network connection is concerned, you could always move the router near the xbox and wire it :). Seriously now, the Ethernet bridge is all you need, but you can also find some specifically made for the xbox, which cost around the same and are a bit nicer to look at... Some even connect in one of the controller ports instead of the RJ-45.

Let us know when you reveal the innards of your box.

I just got my Crystal from the U.K. (I am in Ohio) it has a Philips dvd-rom and a Western Digital HD. and the Nidec fan (not a Sunon!!!)

I'm putting a Xenium in it now, will let you more details if there are any.

EDIT:**** Damn Philips won't read cd-r. thats a pisser. Oh well, gonna swap my Sammy into it I guess.

Other strange problem, I can't get my Xenium to boot into the OS. Gonna have to figure that one out.  SOLVED

It is probably a 1.4 like all the rest have been. Glad to hear your Phillips reads cd-rs. I was reading a Pinned topic yesterday where people have had mixed results with the new Phillips. Some read cd-r some don't some won't read dvd-r while others will. and some other won't read anything but official discs.

If you are going to chip it, you may as well open it now, so that you can become familiar with the insides.

I also recommend opening it... can't hurt to know what it looks like. I haven't even oredered my chip yet and my xbox is sitting open dor 3 days :).

If you decide to open it, pls provide some info on HDD and fan. Since mine has a 10 Gb Seagate and a Sunon fan and Photoman's has an 8Gb WD and a Nidec, I'm kinda curious what yours has. (I remind you that mine is a 30/01/2004 box).

Actually, you can probably id the fan from the outside.
