Weird Xbox Problem
« on: December 03, 2003, 11:01:00 AM »

All right, Heres the problem. About a month ago I went to install my 3rd  hardrive, (western digital 120gig). When I put my evox install disk in, my dvd drive froze up or somthing it would not open. Everytime I turned on my xbox it would turn off and on a couple of times with a green light and then it would stay on with a flashing green and red light.
First I thought it might be my chip. (First Matrix) I messed with it for a while but the same thing still happened.
Second I thought maybe there was something wrong with my av cables since i had no video, But new cables didn't do anything.
Third, I left it alone for a while till I had enough money for a new xbox. When I got the new xbox I put the new dvd Drive in My broke xbox to see if that was the problem. Nope same thing. Then for the hell of it I put the old dvd drive in my new xbox and the drve worked fine. That surprised me.
Fourth, I took out my Matrix chip, put the factory harddrive and dvd drive from the new xbox in the old one to see if it would work normal, but again I have the same problem. And this is how far I've got so far.

Things I know,
Its not The DVD drive
Its not The Hardrive
Its not the video cable
Its not the Matrix Chip
Its not The Ribbon Cable (replaced with new)
Its not the yellow dvd wires (replaced with new)
Old xbox is 1.0 New is the one with Tetris and Clone wars

Things I don't know,
Will New xbox factory hardrive work in old Xbox

Any help would be much appreciated. Thanx

I got the exact same problem/sympton as you do.  See also My other post/Reply
Just tried the DVD drive on a friends xbox and it works fine. The harddisk (Original Segate) has a kind of 'beep' sound on the first (sometimes the second) automatic reboot.

After reboot 3 times it will flash green/red (when VGA cable is in) and the dvd drive can NOT eject. However if I leave out the VGA cable I get the same symptoms but with green/yellow flash AND now I can eject the dvd (strange).

My guess is that this could be a IDE controller hardware error...

Any suggestions are appreciated.

modded Xbox 1.0.
Thomson DVD
Segate HD.
