Hd Replacement Gone Awry
« on: November 01, 2003, 02:15:00 PM »

I have taken on the challenge of switching my retail HD for a WD120g. I have tried everything to get slayers or the evox to boot...(same evox CD I used on retail HD). I have tried the 4977, M7, M6, 4978, 4976 bioses and none will boot either CD. I get and error 13 when I try and boot most of the time with certain bios's and others it just sits on the initial XBOX boot screen and does nothing. I have now tried 2 types of CDRW Memorex, Verbaitim. Anyone have Ideas???!!! PLEASE Bump.   Thanks in advance

I just went throught the same ordeal.

What version of xbox?
What DVD-ROM drive?

Mine was a v1.0 with a Thomson drive. I had to keep rebooting and rebooting, or reloading and reloading before it would finally read the Memorex CD-RWs that I burned.

Try pushing down on both front corners of the dvd drive. (not where it warns you not to).  Its worked for me in the past. Make sure the new hdd is set to cable select or if all that fails you could hotswap the hdds once slayers loads.
There is a small risk with hotswapping though.

Sounds like your media. try TDK CD-RW 4x and burn the cd at 1x. Always works for me.

i had same prob with 1.0 but it eventually read the disc :)

and i broke my cd burner when i was doing a hotswap and putting the xbox hdd in my comptuer - there was a huge ass green spark... the comptuer shut off and owuldnt turn back on for 20 min... after 20 min i got it to turn on only to find out that my cd burner was fried.

a lesson: dont plug anythign in internally to ur comptuer while the ocmptuer is on - always power off first

dont let this scare u - ive hot swapped many times before, this only happened 1ce - just be carefull
