Multimeter On Dvd Pot?

My friend was trying to follow the guide to tweak there pot, now it wont read any games, i told him ill take a look at it, but i cant my multimeter to read anything off the second ping and the pot screw. Is there a certain place I should have it?

if you look from the back of the drive put one needle to the potscrew and the other to the upper left (or right...6 am here :D ) leg of the pot.

My dvd drive won't read any games or movies now either after I tried the pot tweak. At first it read cdrws and cdrs perfectly. Then when I tried to reset it, I did it without a multimeter. I'm pretty sure I burned out the laser and its pretty much dead. Now it won't read a thing. You might be able to get a replacement laser if that happened, but I just opted on buying a samsung 616t and modifying it. If you do get it working let me know.
