Ok i installed the SD-616T and the eject trinin trinout all work. xbox works etcs. but when i put a game in, original, or backup it shows up as a audio cd???

and i flashed the rom with the correct bios, and it worked.

now what? plz help im stompted.

but also the eject button still works? thats wierd, at first it didnt work ( i dont think) then it started to work?? wtf. AH!! i want my xbox to work.

yes. I did everything right... ( i mean it all works perfect,, expect in evox when a i put a game in it shows up as AUDIO CD, and when i put it in on ms dash, it goes to cd players?)

But it still ejects??? so im wonderin about the flash? it shows up as the right firmware when i go to properties, and i have flashed twice... with to diff files (alteast to diff sources, could be same file)

Well, i just did this mod this past weekend and it worked flawlessly once i got the pins figured out. Too mnay tutorials saying different things :/ So here's a quick run down from memory of what i did, if it helps.

Started with a samsung 616T drive and 1.0 box. Booted the pc from floppy, flashed the drive with samsung's own drive flashing software, with the bios that i gathered from the usual places. Broke out the dvd connector from the broken thomson.

Opened up the 616T, desoldered the motor and rotated it 180 degrees and soldered it back. (I saw in one tutorial that they soldered some jumper wires to the ribbon cable just below it, i DID NOT do this). Soldered wires on the points for TRIN, TROUT, EJECT, and RDY. Forgive the ascii art, no digicam, but below is the pinout of how it worked out on mine. Note, the view is the BACK of the salvaged dvd connector, i.e. the part that would be facing the circuit board of your 616T, the front would be the side the yellow cable plugs in to. Also, the longer slits (the slots in the plastic connector that run the same direction as the pins) are on the TOP side in this view.

Little epoxy on the connector, a power splitter for the HD power and i was all set. Worked perfectly in evox and the MS Dash. Maybe you'll see something you missed or added. Good luck

EDIT: Hmmm.... if it works mechanically (ejects and all) like you said, yeah i'd definately suspect the flashing file or process. Try getting the file from somewhere else and downloading the samsung flashing tool.

Wheres the flashing software? i cant find the software on there site to flash through floopy, i wont to flash it that way. thanks

You can get the program you need, sfdndosm.exe, from this zip file

Basic gist of it. Make a dos boot floppy. Stick your bios and sfdndosm.exe on there. For safety's sake, i'd disconnect all your drives and leave the samsung as the only thing on there. Remember where it is! Primary Master, etc etc. This is important for the flashing command

once you boot in, type, without quotes or the brackets: "sfdndosm [name of your bios] [X] -n"

The X should be replaced by the following depending on where you stuck your drive:

"PM" = Primary Master
"PS" = Primary Slave
"SM" = Secondary Master
"SS" = Secondary slave.

So let's say you have your bios named bios.bin and your 616T on the secondary slave position. Your command will look like the following, again without the quotes:
"sfdndosm bios.bin SS -n"

Hit return and let it do its thing.

Thanks for all your help, but still no luck. I got it to flash in dos. said bank 1... bank 2... orsomething, then done. . so i restarted, like it should it showed up as a 605b.. but STILL!!! when i put it in my xbox. ORIGANALS, and BACKUPS, still load up the AUDIO screen, and in evox it shows up as audio??? WTF??!!! AH!!! plz someone help! im very frustrated. thanks so much!

ok i re hooked it up, now its detecting games burned/origanal as unkown disc's... it shows DVDS as DVDS, and AUDIO as AUDIO... WTF? i guesse its a little better then reading them as audio..

I'd really suspect your bios then. You sure it's the right one? Should have dual banks, and makesure it wasn't corrupted in the dl. I found the original link to the flahing procedure i used last night. I'll see if i can post it up after work.

ye i do i have dual banks, thanks man, i really really apprecaite you trying to help me out, it means alot. thanks bro.

it most be the bios, i have checked wires with multimeter, had buddies reveiw soldering etc, EVERYTHING should be in working order... it has to be the bios file... if not then the whole thing is taost.. heh but it was a fully working drive before...
