I give the idea a thumbs up as a large percentage of topics posted in the 360 bst are in relation to this subject.  At least until the traffic slows on the trading. Perhaps  make it tempory.

even refs posted.. mean little. Like BST.. some common sense will need to be used by both parties. The forum, is simply the communications medium used to intiate relevant contact.

Ideally GAME for GAME. no accessories etc. That would be in the older places. The idea is simply a straight GAME for GAME swap meet, especially while games are still fairly new, and have a fairly balanced value.

Comment about insurance etc are valid. For those with that level of concern, this wouldn't be the place for them.

I'll say it again.. BST is full of scammers.. however, ti's also full of alot of honest people with honour. There will be no doubt some people get ripped off. How would people decide on shipping.. one ships first.. both ships and hope each gets to where it should..

I don't know. Don't care either to tell you honestly. That's up to the people who engage each other in a transaction.

Like to see some more feedback.

QUOTE(LumpKin666 @ Dec 31 2005, 11:27 AM) View Post

seems silly to me.. we already have a buy/sell/TRADE forum.  If you make one specific to trading, you have to police all the people who don't just trade.. and you eliminate all the people who arent looking for a trade, but who would have traded or offered you a decent price for your games just because they don't go into the trade forum.

I already hate having separate forums for xbox and 360.. it's just selling.. most people here have some form of interest in both platforms, so it makes it more of a hassle for them to go to both forums now... and even more of a hassle if they are looking to trade/sell an item from one forum for an item in another forum.

As for the feedback/ref system - it'd be too hard to police.   People lie enough here. They'd just get their whole 3rd grade class to give them good feedback.  If you have some sort of ranking system, you cause people to trust those who have a decent ranking, without actually checking them out.  Instead, we should be reading up on peoples previous transactions, checking with those who have dealt with them, and getting enough info to make us feel comfortable (i.e. phone/email/address .. and VERIFY them!).. any system that bypasses that process is going to open people up to getting scammed

Well said, Im going with him.

why not use a mod that has a long standing ref rating as the middle man.

joe 1 sends to mod
joe 2 sends to mod
mod sends joe1 game to joe2
mod sends joe2 game to joe1

both joes send standard shipping costs to mod.

i realize it may add to the time by a few days but if there is a middle man than we have some kinda insurance.

whatcha all think?

i use a similar service for psp games.

http://www.tradepspgames.com

fast and easy but they make money off it too.

i think its a pretty cool idea to have a game for game forum but a mod for a middle man is just a waste of time we have a ref system for a reason and if your scared of getting scammed just don't trade its not worth the hassle just trade with trusted members deals will go bad seen it lots of times on here and other forums its always buyer beware or in this cases trader beware  beerchug.gif

I'm against it. There are already sites out there that are dedicated for this kind of thing. These sites have user rating systems and have methods for "safe" trading. I'm not opposed to trading on the BST forums, but I can see it becoming a big problem.

I think it is a great idea.  I always prefer to trade games as opposed to losing money on every transaction with a game shop.  The B/S/T has so much stuff in it that I have to sort through page after page trying to find a suitable game trade.  I think most people who would be trading games in here would do so on a fairly regular basis, so reputation could be important.  There are easy ways to give yourself a good name (like free tracking, etc) so if you are a scammer, you'll get sorted out quickly.
I think it would be wonderful.

I've only traded games on bst and I haven't gotten scammed once. I'd love a forum for just trading games because it would be more convinient for people like me(i'm so selfish  tongue.gif ) I think if you're going to trade a game you just need to use some common sense, if the guys a scammer and he makes a thread,he will get flamed like no other so it would be pretty easy to notice.

far too many people in these forums doing business aren't even old enough to sign a legally binding agreement.

tracking as a requirement would be an interesting idea.

You still end up with the age old question.. how do you determine who ships first.. or.. if it's agreed upon that both parties ship on the first day... what to do when someone doesn't ship on the same day. or at all..

This is a great idea. I did this a month or so ago with a guy here on the scene. forgot his anem but anyways we traded Madden for COD2. what a bad treade on my part, but i beat COD2 on vet and had all 1000 gamer points. So i wanted to try madden out. So since i had more refs than the guy. He shipped to me first. I got a clean game, no scratches or anything. so in turn i sent him back COD2. all worked out. i think this will be an awesome addition to XB scene. To bad i cant take credit for this idea though  (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wink.gif)

I think it's a good idea... mostly because I've never really ventured into the BST until today when I decided I wanted to try trading a game and found it hard to find the game trade posts in all of this  biggrin.gif

I like the idea of a built in ref system. but even just text is flawed. I'm sure there some IPB/vBulletin plugin that would fit the bill. (I know there's one called Trader Ratings or iTrader or something). Despite the fact that XS takes no responsibility for any of the transactions such a device would probably cut down on the number of complaints and spam posts "because so and so riped me off".

I like the idea of the person with the lower number of refs shipping first, it would encourage people to build their refs as well and theoretically the person with the most refs would have the lower chance of scamming you.

But then it goes back to the text based system and people could just be making refs up.

we could maybe find and recommend escrow services so ... I put $60 into the escrow and you send me the game, when I receive it I send you the game and can get my $60 back (less whatever minor charges). Or it could go both ways where both parties put in the $60...

I don't think we should force anyone to perform their tranactions any particular way, I think that's getting TOO involved where we at XS would have more responsibility for not making sure people where following set transaction procedure. Giving friendly suggestions would be good though.

Great Idea.  To make things safe you could request their contact info and talk to them on the phone.  If they decline then maybe it is not a good idea to follow through on that particular transaction.
