Menu Help Please
« on: December 13, 2004, 04:24:00 PM »

Hi

I’m having a little problem with my menu editing.

The xbox is my 3 year olds, so I would like to only list games.

When I edit the menu to be the following I get a full menu anyway.

<Menu>
   <Path>E:\Games</Path>
   <Path>F:\Games</Path>
</Menu>

I get:
LaunchDVD
Games
Applications
System
File Explorer
MS Dashboard
Reboot
Shutdown

Do I have to keep my games in a sub list menu or set each one as a menu Item?

CODE

                  F:\Games
                  G:\Games

you are going to lose all functionality of the dash though if you do that. i would keep a backup config for if you need to make any changes.

just make that the only thing between the "menu" and "/menu" tags.

edit: guess i didnt read the whole post. maybe try updating to latest unleash, then delete the gamesave and items.xml and reboot with that config.

Seems like I'm stuck with having the Game as a menu item.

I was hoping to just have the main screen list the games for her.

Or I will need to add each game as an action Item.
Which won’t be to big of a deal since it won’t be updated to often.

Thanks

this should work:
QUOTE
<Menu>
<Path>E:\Games</Path>
<Path>F:\Games</Path>
</Menu>

but after you set that up, delete the items.xml file that is in the same directory with the config.xml.  i know that works.  i've done it.

The last 4 builds or so supports games in top level menu. What version are you using?

Just a quick suggestion; how about adding a password protectec submenu item so you can still get to your filemanager, settings, etc... This way, your little one can play all the games he/she wants, but you have your own menu to play around with when you want access to the xbox.

That would be ok but I have created my own Evo boot disks with apps I need and the FTP setup for me to transfer games and things.

Plus I still have the FTP on the dash so I can manage game saves remotely.

She has a tenancy of over writing her game saves and getting mad at it lol.
