Wtb: Absolutely Ridiculous Request
« on: February 17, 2011, 02:38:00 AM »

Okay. so I doubt anyone will be able to fill this request, but I'd kill to have this.

-Black xbox, with the following modifications:

(IMG:http://img69.imageshack.us/img69/1254/1000808jpgdddd.jpg)
(IMG:http://img16.imageshack.us/img16/9568/1010820.jpg)
(IMG:http://img268.imageshack.us/img268/6232/1000814jpghhh.jpg)

-X3, and X3 control panel
(IMG:http://www.gonzomodz.com/catalog/images/ONR-DIV/x3controlpanelblk.jpeg)

But with a green LCD, instead of blue.

-Upgraded CPU, and RAM.
-Iceberq(or similar) cooling
-Thermal compound replaced with Arctic Silver or other Silver-based compound
-Clear Jewel modification( like this except with green glowing )

I don't care what size the hard drive is, so long as the system boots, and can play original xbox games.
I want the startup dash to be XBMC.

Obviously for this ridiculous of a request, price is not really a factor.

Interesting coincidence.

Tonight I soldered in ram chip 2 of 4 into a 1.1 I acquired the other day. I can't confirm that they were a successful install as I don't have a USB memory stick that the XBox will accept nor do I have any mod chips to toss into it quite yet. It doesn't FRAG or refuse to boot so I'm assuming there aren't any shorts so far. Still have 2 chips left to install.

I can do the CPU upgrade but there is one major problem: I can't source the adapter necessary to allow a standard Socket 370 CPU to function in an XBox. These guys have been out of production for a long time, if you can find me one I'm sure I can install the thing.

The other semi-big problem is that it is very difficult to acquire an X3 these days let alone the X3 control panel with LCD.

By Iceberq cooling I assume you mean one of these:
http://cgi.ebay.com/Iceberq-4-VGA-Cooling-...=item3cb517e2cf ?

I can do you one better with the thermal paste as I've got some stuff made with diamonds. Diamonds have a much higher efficiency rating when it comes to the transference of heat. I've had them drop temperatures on desktop CPUs by 5C and video cards easily by 6-7C.

This particular XBox also just had a brand new laser dropped in as while I was attempting to boot Splinter Cell for the first time the laser just keeled over and died. The jewel, case and LED mods are a snap too.

You will probably need two people to work on it, one to do the CPU and RAM upgrades and another for everything else. Not sure how one would get a green LCD in there unless they sold the green ones in the same size as the ones in the X3 Panels, which in that case it would just need a swap.

chances are, with the LCD, I could likely track down one that is the right fit/display and get it replaced. it would need some soldering, but hey.

I actually didn't expect anyone to reply to this ahah. or I more expected people to say "good luck! keep dreaming!"
There any way I can get an estimated cost? like I said, with this ridiculous a request, I obviously can't go too cheap, so cost isn't a factor, but I'd still like to know what I'd be looking at.

i honestly dont see the big deal with the request. I have seen the work of a few modder's here that should have no problem filling that order, hell i may even give it a go as it's a pretty cool looking box i just couldn't pull of the ram upgrade.

Upgrading the ram is the easy part. Finding the CPU adapter and soldering it in is the hard part.

As for cost I have no idea. I could quote for labor and known parts but finding the adapter is going to be really difficult. I do have a 1.4ghz Pentium III Socket 370 in my possession though which are somewhat difficult to find these days.

Pentium 3s topped off at 1.4ghz. If it's 2ghz its probably a p4 in which case no it won't work.
