I almost went for one of these too...the problem for me was that it played retail games too fast...and if i did this to one of my boxes, i feel it should go to the gaming box, and not the movie box.  makes no sense to me to have the upgraded system for emulation gaming but not be able to use it for retail gaming.

never heard of the patch, but i don't think it would help when using my original discs.

any insight into this?  i've already got a 128mb motherboard, and would really like to consider getting this system maxed out.

the patch is supposed to work with a few games,

as a movie box the extra cpu juice comes in handy for playing back hidef .ts streams

I have played with a real DreamX 1480 Xbox.  My buddy a few doors down owns one and he wont give it up for nothing...  I have borrowed it for a day here and there - I have extensively played with it.

It will play 720 HIDEF avi captures - but thats about it.  I have HIgher end Encoded content and even .TS Files and they will not play for nothing on there.  I have used the newest WMC on there and nothing.

Im sure the MOBO's Dano2ko was talking about should pretty much do the same thing.  They will play slightly higher end encoded files (HENCE THE REASON I WANT ONE) but .ts files are still a wet dream for Xbox.  Maybe Xbox360 Media center Will do that when home brew is avalable.

How exactly are these made?
The current CPU is desoldered? Then they have to install an adapter, then install the new one? Where can the adapter be found, and the new processor? Then I'm assuming a new bios has to be flashed...?

I asked the Friendtech people and they don;t want to say anything.
I wish I knew.

I really want a Upgraded Xbox just for XBMC.. It kills me not to be able to stream certain encoded videos - I hate watching them on my PC or hooking my PC up to my tv/... XBMC is so much better.

Although this isn't what your looking for, in the near future i may be offering pre-upgraded motherboards for sale with a P3 1GHZ processor, 256k cache, i belive the patch available for the dream x console should also work with this upgrade if it becomes sucessfull for playing games, but will work wonders in XBMC.

Also any boards that have this upgrade will come with 128MB RAM.

Just thought i'd give a heads up, i'm not selling any yet as its something i'm working on but hopefully i may have something available in the near future, but we'll see (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)
In on this topic for more information when it is available.

The only thing my xbox is missing is the ability to handle high definition xvid. I've been holding out hope that someone would eventually figure out how to use the gpu to help with playback but it probably won't happen.

I don't know.

I received an Order Confirmation and Ordered 3 day shipping so Even if it ships tomorrow (Thurs) should be here by Saturday.

Worse that can happen is they say they don't carry them anymore and cancel my order or they Don't ship and they are a scam and I call my credit Card company and stop payment.  Easy as that.  I don't think they are a scam as they are Part of DIRECTRON - But I cannot say for sure if they are in stock or not.  They might have none left and in that case the order just gets canceled by them - no cost to me.
