I installed the chip myself.  Wires aren't routed in right-angles and bundled like some of the super-clean installs I've seen before.  While neat to look at, I don't find it necessary.  I keep the wires as short as possible, and use a ESD-safe Weller solder station.  I use 30ga wire for all points except for +5V, GND, and RST (24 ga).  A small line of hot glue is applied to wires near their connection to the BIOS chip in case something gets tugged.

I've done 30+ PS2 installs so rest assured it is a solid install.
