Alphebetic Order For Game?
« on: May 25, 2004, 01:05:00 PM »

Is it possible for your games to be in alphebetic order under MXM?  I have been searching on ths with no luck.  Any info would be helpful, I know you can manually edit the .xml file to do it but the next time you add a game and refresh the .xml it puts them all out of order again.  When I am speaking games I am speaking about xbox games.

Thanks in advance :D

I have tried that and it's still not working. Is it possibly a problem with the skin I am using?

Do you have you're menus defined manually in a MXM.xml file.

You need something like the following in a menu.xml:
CODE

      Games
      title
      f:\games

Now I have a question. Why can't I sort items alphabetically by title in the root menu? If my menu.xml is:
CODE

   title
   f:\games

ie the same as above but the games listed in the root menu not a submenu, they are not sorted alphabetically by title. Any ideas?

you really dont want to use

QUOTE
<endsort />

the purpose of this is to "stop" the sorting.. and is not to be used as a closing tag.

I thought it was used to deliminate which bits you want sorted and which bits you didn't. In my full menu.xml I have a mixture of manually added items (which I want in a specific order), and autodir items (which I want sorted manually). I have been 'wrapping' the autodir items with <sortfield>title</sortfield> and <endsort />, and it seems to do what I want it to, apart from this problem of using autodir in the root menu.

I'll experiment more later.

I've now played with this on my Xbox and removing the <endsort /> doesn't appear to make a difference. A menu.xml containing:
CODE

  title
  f:\games

is not sorted, but a menu.xml containing:
CODE

     Games
     title
     f:\games

is sorted.

Any ideas? I'd really like to have my main games listed directly in the root menu.

That wasnt your original question :)  if you want your game listed on the main menu,  just remove the SUBMENU tags.

Maybe I'm not being clear or something, but when I said I wanted my games listed in the root menu, I meant I wanted them listed in the root menu sorted in alphabetical order. If I remove the <submenu> tags then they are no longer sorted.

Surely someone else can confirm this?

Well, this may be a bug. I'll add it to my list of things to check.

SortField not working on the root menu.

Well I have added the following

<menu>
 <submenu>
    <title>Games</title>
    <sortfield>title</sortfield>
    <item><autodir recurse="false">f:\games</autodir></item>
 </submenu>
</menu>

and it's working so thanks pelago :D :beer:
