both xboxes have the same hdd. Maxtor 80GB 7200 RPM 2MB cache.

of course we were not transfering at the same time :-) the rest of the network is not that big, 2 laptops and 3 pc's. they all were not processing much data on the net, so the networkconditions were about the same either. we have tried switching cables, not helping out.

xbox has a hardware failure?

xbox is off. we have even pulled the cable out. so there is nothinh on the hub except one xbox and the input cable. this cable comes from another hub on which the rest of the network is connected, i.e. the server (with xfer), a gateway for internet access, 2 laptops and a linux machine. but we still get only a max of 900 kB/s.

we have tried xfer, fxp, IE ftp and CuteFTP pro. there is no difference noticable between the different programs, so we don't think that would be the problem. the other xbox works fine with all these programs.

Said you switched cables, did you switch ports on the hub as well?  bad port?

Something similar happened to me too. Excepet i have only one xbox - evox settings showed 100/full dupleax but the speed was only 10mbits throught hub. I almost ripped my hairs off watching how slow it is, then somebody suggested to check cables. When i changed cables - the one between pc - hub (homemade) to xbox-hub, and xbox-hub cable (factory made) to pc - hub -- tada! it worked like a charm.
I  have know idea why it happens this way, its like historie mystary or something.  But you also might want to try different cable combos - might help , who knows.
