Sorry to hear it dude its people like this that give us installers a bad name.

edit: The installer probably just has something bridged on the board. Its probably fixable.

you will need someone to read the tsop externally, there are plenty of people here that can do it so all may not be lost, wish i could help but i'm in the uk, the usual downfall with these drive is a e64 that happens a lot but even those are fixable

i can't believe that people take these jobs on and don't put them right or guarrantee the work, if that was to ever happen to me and all was lost i would replace the console

Thanks swampy-but could you please explain what you mean by reading the tsop? I  had one guy tell me that he needed to have the orginal firmware but since the guy never got that far when he told me that he switched it to mode B and the drive disappeared before he flashed it.

It requires someone to remove the flash chip and read the firmware with an external programmer. There are quite a few reliable people here that can do it.

Increasingly I am seeing a very good need for this device myself. I keep telling myself to get one and heck I may as well browse to eBay and pick up one now. lol

So True, I'm in the same boat. Need to get one myself  biggrin.gif

As for the drive itself, Drives don't just "disappear" from Windows. I think an accident happened while the drive was being prepared for flash extraction (if it ever got that far) Either power cable came loose and was plugged in the wrong way = toast or passkey got ripped off (damaged traces) Only the installer knows what exactly happened.

Its obvious that it was a screw up on the installers end. You may want to see if the drive is connected to the power/sata cable inside the xbox. If so and still not working, take the back plate off and checkout the traces for any damage (where the passkey would go)

Next time you should always check the Guarantee from the installer. Many of us offer replacements when things go bad.

Post back.

Thanks
Ex.

Well I sent my box to VGC repairs in Cali.-I was able to speak to a live person, so I sent him my box and he gave me a quite "decent" esitmate of repairs and repaired my box seems the guy did trace damage but it was minor and VGC was able to correct the problem and installed my passkey and flashed my drive. Now thats Service!!-They sent it back to me priority mail on a friday and I got it today(Monday) I'm quite pleased at the work and very pleased to finally get my box back and working. So glad thier was a good outcome to a horrible experience. smile.gif  smile.gif  smile.gif
