Looking For A Skin.ini Guide,
« on: March 26, 2005, 02:18:00 PM »

Hello all,

I'm working on modifying/making some skins, and have figured out some of the code in the ini file, but know there is more to it than the knowledge I cobbled together.
Does anyone have or know of a guide explaining the various command lines and options available to code with? I've searched throught he forums with limited success.

"Just use a skinner program!", you may say. Well, I haven't found one that'll work on my Mac yet... <_<

Thanks for your time. <

Looking For A Skin.ini Guide,

Well, here it is.  It's not a professional FAQ, just my understanding of the skin.ini file.  I've added a few design tips.  Most of them are just common sense.  Your best bet would be to get a good skinning program and just start playing with it.  Keep your FTP prog open, custom skinning is an art of  trial and error.  Good luck.

  • SkinName "SKIN NAME","SKIN NAME"

These are the skin names, I don't know what in Evox picks them up, but they appear to be necessary.

  • [Skin_SKIN NAME]

This is the skin name that Evox uses on the skin list.  I don't know if it has to be the exact same as the above two names.

  • Text = 100,69,1,0xFF0000,0,"<Time>"
  • Text = 101,68,1,0xFFFFFF,0,"<Time>"

This is the text that sits on top of the main image.  The format is simple:
Text = X coordinate, Y coordinate, Alpha, Hex color, Alignment, TEXT
The Alpha is how opaque the text is.  .0 is invisible, .5 is half, and so on.
Hex colors . . . you'll have to look those up yourself.
Alignment is either 0 for left alignment, or 1 for right alignment.
The TEXT portion is what's actually slapped onto the image.  Must be placed inside double quotes.
EvoX has several reserve words that it uses for built in text items:

<BIOSVer> = BIOS Version
<CD> = DVD-ROM
<CRLF> = Carriage Return
<IP> = IP Address
<Name> = Remote X Version
<RDName> = [RDTOOLS]
<SpaceC> = Space Free on Drive C
<SpaceE> = Space Free on Drive E
<SpaceF> = Space Free on Drive F
<SpaceG> = Space Free on Drive G
<SpaceX> = Space Free on Drive X
<SpaceY> = Space Free on Drive Y
<SpaceZ> = Space Free on Drive Z
<Time> = Time and Date
<Version> = Evolution X Version
<Temp1> = Motherboard Temperature
<Temp2> = CPU Temperature
<Temp3> = Hard Drive Temperature

  • LogoType = 2

This is the location and type of animated EvolutionX Logo that appears on the main image.  To my knowledge, this can't be removed.  Type 0 is large and centered.  Type 1 is small and in the upper left corner, and it goes clockwise from there, 2,3 and 4 being upper right, lower right, and finally lower left.  I might be wrong on those, but you get the idea.

  • Main   = "\skin\SKIN NAME\MAIN_IMAGE.jpg"
  • Launch = "\skin\SKIN NAME\LOAD_IMAGE.jpg"

These are the locations and names of the main and launch images.  If you screw something up here, like not naming the files or folder correctly, EvoX will revert back to the default skin.  It would be nice if you could place all of your folders into subfolders, like ABSTRACT, BABES, CARS, GAMES, etc, but you can't.  All skin folders must be placed in the root of the skin directory.  Yours may be different, but everyone's default seems to be c:\skin.  It's not necessary to have a load image, but for design sake, it is a good idea.

  • BarColor1 = 0xFF0000
  • BarColor2 = 0x000000

These are the color properties for your menu bar in hex format.  Color 1 is the color of the actual bar.  Color 2 is the color of the bar border.

  • BarAlpha = .4

This is the alpha for the BarColor1.  The value ranges from 0 (completely invisible), to 1.0 (completely solid).  This value works in conjunction with the bar border to add a nice effect.  A black menu bar, with a black menu border, with a baralpha of .5 will show a semi-transparent menu bar with a solid black border around it.  Experiment with this to get the most out of your menu.  Sometimes you want the main image to show through, sometimes it doesn't matter.

  • MenuColor1 = 0xFFFFFF
  • MenuColor2 = 0xFFFFFF

These are the colors of the menu items.  Menu colors are consistent, which means that selected items and NON selected items are the same color.  I'm not sure which is which, but it doesn't really matter.  The secondary color only appears to be used on menu separators like '--------------------' <
