How Do I Finish The Evox Install On My Xbox?
« on: October 15, 2004, 03:53:00 PM »

Hi,

I created my evox boot disc, then inserted it into my xbox, powered up & it seemed to be working perfectly.  It showed the evolutionX logo & the menu, so i turned off the the xbox & took out the disc, and when i rebooted it, it went back to the X3 bois 18..etc.  I didnt see the evox anywhere.  Im assuming I didnt successfully load it into my xbox.  I read the tutorials but I cant find how to finsh the install, is there some place in the evox menu i was supposed to press / engage?
When I boot to evox disc, this is the menu i see:

launch dvd
trainers
MS dashboard
reboot
power off
system utilities
launch menu

Could someone please help me complete the process.

Thank you

Sounds like you made a great boot disk.  It doesn't auto install.  It enables an FTP server so that you can transfer the files you want onto the Xbox.  Read the tuts about FTP.

FTP can be a bitch at first.  I've written my own tut that I give to people when I mod their Xbox.  I made my own very specific, and for the complete noob.  I'll just post it and hope that it helps.

If you want to FTP yourself you need the following:
1.Crossover cable, (or router, or hub.  You cannot simply connect the pc to the xbox with a regular patch cable.  IT MUST BE A CROSSOVER.  Or, you can use regular patch cables through a router or hub)

2.Network interface card installed on your PC.

3.FlashFXP program, downloaded free from www.download.com
To transfer, connect the pc to the xbox, using a method described above.

Connect the cords.  Simply connect one end of the CROSSOVER cable to the PC’s Network card ethernet jack, and the other to the Xbox’s ethernet jack.  If you don’t have a crossover cable, then you can use two regular ethernet cables through a router or a hub.

Connecting the xbox and computer physically is the easy part.  For some reason, many people have trouble getting the xbox and PC to communicate with each other.  This is what to do:
From your computer’s start menu, you need change the properties on your network card. Your computer probably calls it your Local Area Connection.  It can be found in the Control Panel, under Network Connections.
Right click it and select properties.  Under the General tab, there is a box that says: “This connection uses the following items”.
Click (not uncheck) the one that says “Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)”. Once it is highlighted, select the properties button.
Under the General tab, select “use the following IP address”

Then in the boxes enter the following:
IP=192.168.100.1
Subnet mask= 255.255.255.0
Default gateway=192.168.0.1

Selecting OK will save it.  (Note: When you are done transferring files, you need to reset your Network card to “Obtain an IP address automatically” otherwise you won’t be able to access the Internet though the card)

Once your Xbox and PC are connected physically, turn on your Xbox.  On your Xbox, under Settings, select Skins.  Choose a skin that shows your IP address.  If your Xbox and PC are physically connected, the IP address should be visible from the dash.  If under IP it is blank, reboot. Your Xbox’s IP address must show on the dash for there to be a connection.

Inside Flash FXP
On the top-left part of the right half of the screen, select connect. (It looks like a lightning bolt.  Holding the cursor over it shows its function)
Go to Quick connect

Under Server or URL type: 192.168.100.9 (or whatever your xbox’s IP address is. Visible from the dash) Note on networks, Your Xbox and PC need to be on the same network, this is determined by the IP address.  The first three groups of numbers need to be the same.  For example they both need to be 192.168.100.xxx   the last numbers CANNOT be the same for the xbox and PC.  This would mean that they are the same computer.  It actually can be any number from 1 to 200 something.)  Just make sure that the first three groups of numbers are the same, and that the last group of numbers are not.

Port: 21
Username: xbox
Password: xbox

Hit connect, and there you are.  If Flash FXP doesn’t connect, then you didn’t follow the directions correctly.  Try rebooting.  For some reason, when transferring files, I have to reboot my xbox a lot, and close Flash FXP and then re open it.

Once connected, Your Xbox files are displayed on the right, and your computer’s files are on the left.

Good luck.

If you have a NIC, then I'm sure that the tut will work for you.  just figure out how to change the settings for your Network Interface Card.  I'm sure that it's in the start menu.

sup, if you have Windows ME, go to run in your start menu, then in the box that appears, type in "winipcfg" without the quotations. Then select your network card in the menu that pops up, obtain the ip address that it contains, then just change your ip address in the settings part of your evo-x dashboard to it, except put the last number one higher than the address on your pc.Then it should be able to work. That's just setting up your ip address though. Then just look up the tutorials on the xbox-scene.com home page. Alrite. Peace
