Free Hd Space
« on: October 05, 2004, 04:04:00 PM »

On stock harddrives, how much space is advised to leave after installing evox, apps, etc on a stock xbox drive.  Should I stay above 100mb, or should I save more space.  I just don't want the dashboard to lock up on me or freeze or anything like that b/c the hdd is too full.

Thanks

p.s which drives are 8 and 10 gb?

Seagates are 10gig and WD are 8gig.Since you are only using your stock hdd the only apps you need are xbmc,dvd2xbox.Since you have that extra space on your stock hdd you can backup 2-3 games because your apps don't take up that mutch space.

Thanks.

I usually load up the stock drive with 7 emulators and about 2200 roms.
That takes up a good 4-5 gigs.   I usually have around 1.2 gigs of free space and I sometimes throw on a 700mb game.  I also have another game which is 220mb and another a bit higher.

So I was just wondering if it's a good idea to put them on, or if I should leave like a gig of free space to be on the safe side for the xbox to run properly.

So, I just wanted to know what you guys suggest the minimum space I can keep on the drive before it starts failing and freezing.

Thanks a lot

If you don't want to backup any games you could load up your hdd with the emulators and the roms and you should have any problems with your xbox starting to freeze or anything else.

ok, because I was reading around people saying that they are scared even leaving under a gig of free space in their drive b/c it is bound to fail some times.

thx

Hi

Are you talking about the complete HDD? In that case you can't have only 1GB of free space because cache partitions x, y,and z alone are 2,4 GB togeteher.

The interesting partitions in order to have an good working Xbox are C and E. F you could fill up to the brim - or maybe you have not opened up F yet?

To only put MS stuff and Evox on C is a safe way to go. Then have at least 500 MB of space free on E (the save partition).

Or maybe I misunderstood you?

So is 500mb good enough space for saves on games and emulator saves as well?
I put the emulators and roms on the e drive along with the saves DIR for them.

I meant the space for E partition, sorry about that.  The others are untouched.

Thanks
