Msdashboard Back To Evolution-x Dashboard
« on: August 30, 2003, 03:58:00 PM »

Hi all.  Stupid question:

Once I've switched to the original Xbox dashboard (MSdashboard) from the Evolution-X boot screen, is there any way to go back to Evo-X screen without turning off my Xbox?  Obviously the original untouched MSdashboard does not have a "back" option.  (An unmodded Xbox would have nothing to go back to.)

I'm using an original X-ecutor modchip, so I don't have in-game reset.  (No update bios capability; don't know if that matters.)  I think I have the most current Evolution-X available.  Do I need to find some "hacked" version of the MSdashboard?  (some exploit?)

I'm asking this question because I have a widescreen TV using composite out video.  Every time I want to play a full-screen game (with no widescreen mode) I have to turn off the hi-res and progressive scan modes from the MSdashboard or else the game plays all stretched out.  (Leaving Mr. Splinter Cell himself Sam Fisher with no neck and a messed-up face.)

One of the reasons I got an Xbox was for its multitude of widescreen games.  I'd like to be able to quickly turn the progressive scan and hi-res features on and off while still sitting on my fat ass.  Any replies would be appreciated.  Thanks for your help in advance.

What you could do is download reboot.xbe from "the usual places".  Then, put that somewhere on your xbox.  After that, you could hack your msdash and add a link to reboot.xbe in one of the menus.  Then you could just choose that whenever you want to reboot back to evox.

EDIT:  I'm no expert with MS dash hacking, but check out the development forum to figure out how to do this.

Thanks for the response, silentkiller.

I downloaded reboot.xbe from "the usual places" but I don't think I'm capable of successfully editing the original xboxdash.  I also went looking for Gcue's pre-made xboxdash's but did not find any.

Realizing my inability to modify my xboxdash was a major problem, I turn now to another question to solve my main issue:
Is it possible to change the Xbox's Audio/Video settings from within Evolution-X ?  Can I toggle settings like "Audio: mono, stereo, or Dolby Digital" or "TV Type: widescreen or fullscreen" from Evo-X?
I'm betting not, but I thought I'd ask.

Unfortunately, you can't choose those options in Evox.

thanks again for replying, silentkiller.

Hopefully a GUI program will come out that will automate some of the process of editing the original MSdashboard.  Then I'll get the result I'm looking for.
