Bad Bios Flash
« on: September 22, 2002, 07:57:00 AM »

:o A friend of mine wanted me to flash his xbox Bios (he had an enigmah beta, god damn game gizmo) and in the middle of flashing we went through a brown out... seems that the xbox didnt like that and it froze up in the middle of things.  Now i have his xbox here and it wont do a thing since it has no bios. What can i do to fix his xbox? I hear some chips are complete bios replacements. (Meaning that it doesnt look onboard for the bios but to the chip for it) Any insight would be appreciated. My friend wants his xbox back

I'm not totally 100% on this , but I think you can use any 3rd gen modchip.

As far as reflashing the onboard, you could try installing say , X ecuter , but install it on fly leads, then boot up from this then remove it with the power on, then try reflashing the onboard bios.

Well. I dont want to reflash the onboard, nor does my friend. he just wants his xbox to work again and to be able to use his backups without having to patch them. will the xecuter work for this?

Let's clarify here. You have 2 options.

One is to get a homebrew or an Extender, which are 29 wires, you would be able to either leave the mod in or use it to reflash the onboard tsop.

The second option is to get an LPC mod (OpenXBox/PC-Bioxx, X-ecuter, Matrix, or Aladdin). You would have to leave these in, though, since YOU CANNOT FLASH THE ONBOARD TSOP from an LPC mod.

Scimmia, your first option wouldn't work mate, as the 1st gen chips need the onboard TSOP to be in good order for them to work , and as its already fooked in this case, an Enigmah / Xtender mod would not boot the system.

By fly leads I mean to install it on long wires so that once you've booted you can cut every wire individually then run the EvoX flash program to reprogram a good bios image back into the onboard TSOP.

Assuming the box remains functional when you cut the mod out. I should think it will..

I never said anything about first generation mods in general or mentioned the enigmah. I said homebrew or Xtender, both of which are complete bios replacements.

And as I said, YOU CANNOT FLASH THE TSOP WITH AN LPC MOD, INCLUDING THE X-ECUTER. PERIOD.
