I would like to add to the list of things to be considered for this whole banning thing. I will not be able to disclose who I work for, but not to long ago I fixed a red ring on a friends X-box, and guess what he has now..... That's right, the nice banned message. only thing I did wrong was turned it on without the DVD Rom drive hooked up to it, just to warm up the heat sinks and make sure that i could get a good tight fit and squeeze some of the excess paste out from between the chip and heat sinks. Needless to say I do vaguely remember getting something in my in-box about not powering it up without the drive hooked up, and if so, the board itself has to have a complete flash overhaul on it. Think of it as a format for a eeprom chip. Thought I might also add, there is supposed to be 4 ways they can detect bogus firmware. These include read speeds, console updates, and not to mention that even if you spoof a drive, the console may see it as having a stock drive with a matching key, but has anyone really taken apart any wave 4 software to see what all is in it? Another thing of interest to me, we have different ways of checking things for consoles that now have on board memory. This is probably going to be a time consuming journey for all of you. Technically you can own backups of any game that you own that you have purchased, if you read the Terms of Use for Microsoft does it give you permission to take your backed up software online, even if you own originals? Come on people, who really doesn't have any backed up games of something that they don't actually own. And to the geniuses that said things for getting banned like " For all Microsoft knows I could have bought my Modern Warfare 2 at a mom and pop store, or a flea market! ", you sir fail just for saying such things. All I am going to say is Licensed Retail and Licensed Distributors. I hate to say it but even if you were to have bought it at a mom and pop store, they would have a pretty hefty lawsuit coming for releasing a game before it street date. Microsoft is working out all of the bugs in their system, Even though they can be greedy, and this one is a little harsh, They are getting really tired of mothers calling them with complaints cause some Wise Guy is cheating on a game that he modded, and their ten year old will not leave them alone about it. I would not think it fair if i was in game with someone who took the transparency of their skins for walls and such and made it so they can see though them. All you can do now is sit back and let the software run its course and see if your console gets banned, but be sure to think about this, did you find this stuff on an irc channel on the net to mod with, or did you go to best buy and buy a kit to mod it with? Wrong is Wrong, I may not exactly support the drastic measures that Microsoft is going through with this one, but its not exactly fair to those of us who have the proper schooling for writing programs, checking servers, or even making games so every 12 year old with 40 bucks to get his console modded so he can download all of his games. If only 15,000 Copies of MW2 were sold, and the rest were all pirated copies, what does that tell us? MW is done, and no more games like that need to be made, cause no one even bought it. How do you think games make it to $19.99 so fast? It's not because it was so awesome that everyone bought 2 copies of it and now they cant think of another way to sell anymore of that game.
