Blu ray is not an advantage, i would never buy the PS3 to get bluray, that is ridiculous if you are thinking that
Given that, apart from PC based BD-Rom drives, the PS3 is the cheapest way to get a Blu-Ray player for under your TV, I'd have to say it is a Major advantage.
Just look at the HD-DVD add-on, it outsold normal stand-alone HD-DVD player because of the price.
What would you rarther do, pay for a PS3
and a Blu-Ray player, or just suffer the cost of the PS3.
Why do you think Sony have priced it like this, not only does it drive sales of Blu-Ray up it also drives the PS3 sales, I really don't think it would cost more to manufacture a pure BD Player than a PS3.
Anyhow I don't care, my TV runs via a HTPC that hold's a 360's HD-DVD and a cheap £60 BD-Rom drive.
I also agree with Kr0n1k, so much that I'm considering ripping all my DVD's to Divx/MP4 and storing the disc's in the loft, will save me a hell of a lot of space in the front room, also guarantees against damage to the disc by the kids.
If they want to watch a movie they can either stream it to the consoles they have in their room, and for in car it takes 10 mins to burn 3-4 movies to 1 dvd and watch them on a portable DVD/DivX player.
mmm, I did waffle a bit, ah well.
