yeah, i am sure developers are going to line up to release titles for a system with a minimal install base. Nintendo is already nearing the halfway point to M$'s head start, it has a cheaper development cost, and developers are very interested in making games for it, plus it is made by a japanese company and that automatically wins over their audience. Plus Nintendo is earning money on their console (something no one else can claim) so they are in no trouble at all. Even a profitable last place is better then hemorrhaging first.

The fact that Dragon Quest IX is coming out on the DS should prove to be a little foreshadowing of what's to come. if SquareEnix has no faith in the sony brand (as they have been releasing titles for every system under the sun) there is very little reason to believe that any other heavy hitting development team are going to release exclusives for a system that has near 1/15th of a market share, especially considering the dev costs for these epic titles.

Lets not forget sony's underwhelming proprietary format success, blueray is nothing but a foot note next to mini disc  and UMD, so to say this is win for the PS3 is a little rash. Besides, after spending the last 5 years accumulating DVDs do you really want to replace them already? VHS was swinging for more then 15 years before the format change, and VCRs are still common place in most homes, do you really think anyone besides those who bought laser disc players are really looking to trade out the library of movies they have acquired? No they don't! Aside from media buzz over HDTV, most people are clueless about what it is and why it is better, all they notice is the inflated price tag. In fact, upon showing almost everyone the difference, they usually scoff about how i need to find better ways to spend my free time after saying they don't know what i am talking about with "jagged edges." HDTV is only a status symbol right now (right up there with Hummers, Razor cell phones, and adopted minorities,) it will take a complete industry change (around 2010-2013) to get the general public to follow.

So sure, Sony will probably be top dog in 2007 as well, but only because of the ps2 (honestly I still play mine) but when that boat runs out of steam, Nintendo and Xbox will be there soak up there respective audiences. Sony just isn't the same company it was when the PSX or PS2 was released, they are dodging complete financial collapse on the whims of their stock holders...

first off, although vhs's are common place, your hard pressed to find anyone using them for more than recording (and that's only until dvr's come down to dirt prices). Nearly every home has a dvd player, even if it is a 20 dollar walmart unit. also dvd's are becoming increasingly cheaper and many people are willing to buy dvd's to replace their old vhs's...a little at a time. also keep in mind that regular dvd's will play in hd-dvd systems so there is no loss there. I agree about the high price of hdtv but that is not stopping the sales of them. and the so called "complete industry change" you speak of is the yar 2009. after that, if u don't have an hdtv u'll need a converter box for your old one. whether people will be stuck paying for them or the cable company provides them for free or a nominal fee is yet to be announced.

I just dont get how people can say that the PS3 is going to be  bust.
Im just saying that lets all stop the PS3 bashing already.  Lets give it a fair chance.
Lets wait it out gentleman.

So far not so good for Sony.  They have way less PS3s in the market than the Wii and it is the PS3s that are sitting on shelves while Wiis are hard to get - there was even a recent promo by a major games retailer to give $100 off the PS3 if you bring in a PS2 - that's not good.  There are few games at all and not really any good ones.  The Sony online experience is terrible at best with poor interface and even worse content available.  And the controllers have no rumble feedback - they feel light and cheap.  I won't go on.  Sure we can wait, but reality will set in eventually...

As for me I voted the Wii60 - played the Wii a lot, but still looking for one...

You realize that when Nintendo does release a new game or franchise it slaughters everything under it right?

CODE
1. Mario (Nintendo): 193 million
2. Pokemon (Nintendo): 155 million
3. Final Fantasy (Square Enix): 68 million
4. Madden NFL (Electronic Arts): 56 million
5. The Sims (Maxis/Electronic Arts): 54 million
6. Grand Theft Auto (Rockstar): 50 million
7. Donkey Kong (Nintendo): 48 million
8. The Legend of Zelda (Nintendo): 47 million
9. Sonic the Hedgehog (Sega): 44 million
10. Gran Turismo (Sony): 44 million

443 million to 316 if my math is right. 1 company vs the best of the best and comes out on top, and you consider that common place? BTW, where's Sony's franchise game at on that list? oh that's right they don't make games, they make dvd players. So the whole time Nintendo is working on making an innovative gaming system they're making the number one and number two selling game series to date. Yet you want more from them and consider an addition of a proprietary DVD format a revolution in technological feats.

When Sony makes something worth buying I'll buy it. Which will probably be a TV or something along those lines.
The only thing Sony has going for them in this latest console war is Nationalism!

Wow, you sure did over look one huge difference, the nintendo games have been so over produced and over marketed those numbers aren't shocking at all.  Im not saying i hate nintendo becuase i actually love most mario games.
Think about all the crap pokemon games that come out constantly and every single mario title that has streched from sports to fighting to just regular mario.
Not to mention mario has been around since 1981.(26 years)

Dont let numbers tell you the whole story, your just being naive if you think thats true

360 + Wii... no doubt.   Wii is already on the way.  I've already started to receive games and controllers that I ordered too.   Too bad the console itself is touring the USA before coming here.

Never, I repeat: NEVER, choose the cheapest (free) shipping option from Circuit Shity.   Apparently Circuit City has found a way to make a package go slower than First Class Mail, Parcel Post, or UPS Ground.

isn't ALL about the numbers?  m$ will always be in the gaming market assuming they can produce a game like GoW/2mil+ copies in like 90 days.  nin pwns sales, they will too.  sales = money. numbers=sales.

wii360
ps3 = blow me.  i dont need a betamax/umd/blackCD/memorystickproduo/bluray piece of heist.

Xbox360 and Wii, simply because I Want a gaming system with good games. If you hate the fact that you can't play DVDs on a Wii then you probably don't have a dvd player yet. I'll consider a PS3 when I see some better games.  The hi-def features aren't a factor for me my tv only broadcasts 1080i.

Well, if you have a 360 as well, you might as well just play your DVDs on that. tongue.gif Who doesn't have any kind of DVD player by now, though?

Wii60 ftw.

I'm not all together sold on the controller as a "universal" means to play all of the games (fighting games like boxing may be cool, but what about a tekken or street fighter, where button combos come into play?

I agree with this a lot. Developers need to embrace the Classic controller as well. Marvel Ultimate Alliance on the Wii was a trainwreck of shaking your right arm until everyone on screen was dead. it's gameplay was completely COUNTER-intuitive, but could of been saved by including the option for the Classic Controller. developers want to get the most out of every system, but multi-platformers are missing the mark on the Wii. The Wii is also about variety, not just immersion.

I have a feeling all of this will change as we get away from the launch titles, and get to the developers with access to the new development  kits (with motion recording, and other nice tools.)

Just about every game series has had its fair share of crap games. But crap games tend to sell less.  The only way a series will do well and place on the list from the previous post is if they consitantly make solid games.  If you go one step further and look at the numbers from each series, the nintendo ones blow everything else out of the water.  And many of those series have been around since the NES era. The numbers may not tell the whole story but it is does not detract from the fact that nintendo makes some of the best games out there and their track record indicates that they will continue to make more good games.
