Have You Modified Your Xbox 360's Dvd Firmware?
« Reply #60 on: October 12, 2006, 10:06:00 AM »

I have modded my xbox360's dvd firmware.

I back-uped all my xbox titles and I play XBL. I believe that until M$ releases a new dashboard update I (at least) can still play at XBL without problem as it can not detect the modification.. M$ didn't predect it.

All ok! (for the moment)

If they release the black 360 with a larger HDD, a stand alone larger HDD won't be far behind.  I would pick that up.

I think you could quite safely assume it's written in to your xbox live agreement that if a ban occurs, all content becomes property of M$.

Words to that effect anyway.

 unsure.gif

Actually, just because you get banned doesn't mean you lose your xbl content as long as you're using it on the console it was bought on since it's tied to that console just as much as your gamertag.

As far as the poll goes, I don't see any reason to mess with the console unless it's broke or you have a way to make it better ie homebrew biggrin.gif 95% of people who say they want to "backup" their games are liars and thieves, if you take care of your games you won't have a need for backups. I still have my ps1 games and none of them have even a scratch on them. And as far as kids go, if they're not old enough to take care of the games they're probably not old enough to have a console in the first place and if they do 9 times out of 10 they would care if it were a xbox or a 360 so they probably don't or shouldnt' have a 360 in the first place. I hope they fix the hack in the new firmware or at least find a way to detect it and start banning people.

i cant modify because i have ms28 samsung sad.gif
i am waiting to come out new xtreme fw..
good luck commodore4eva smile.gif

A bit offtopic for this poll maybe but dude, learn to search the forums. Ms28's can be hacked since months ago (I have one myself)...

As far as the 'people who download games are thieves' argument goes: I can understand this point of view, and for a lot of people I think it's true that they're actually 'stealing', in the sense that they just refuse to pay for their games if they can also get them for free. Not in the judicial way btw, since technically, copying games is a copyright violation and not theft. But despite that, I still see it differently for people who also pay for the games they really like (as I do). I still don't think that's really theft, as I'm not taking away profits from anyone, I wouldn't have bought the games I 'pirate' anyway.

Now that I think of it, an online distribution model that requires you pay a really small amount (say $0.01) for every minute you play the game (preferably up to a maximum of $60 ofcourse) might be ideal for my purposes. If something like this was available I wouldn't even consider copying games, and I would try out a lot of stuff and pay for it... But things are moving in that direction anyway, so my prediction is that pirating on consoles is going to be completely over when the generation of consoles after x360, ps3 and wii is there... When the content is *only* available by direct download (and signed/verified), it would just be too hard/cumbersome for 99% of the people to hack the protection and pirate games.

I sure did!  The day the firmware hack came out, I went out, bought an Xbox 360, checked the drive - Samsung.  Opened it up just 15 minutes after I bought it.  Flashed it easily first time, backed up some games, and have had no coasters.  Overall a really great experience.  I can't wait for homebrew.

Also, currently in the poll, 43 people have selected the option "No, because I have the wrong drive."  Umm..the only unhackable drive at this point is the Hitachi 0078FK.  I find it hard to believe that there are 43 people with that drive.

I am new to all of the 360 stuff. I bought one about 3 weeks ago and I have one hell of an opinion on this crap.

I really dont care what anypone thinks about it or what I want to do. But I want to be able to mod the Xbox360 to load games from friends over then internet, or use burned Cd's with games on them and be able to download any friggen information I want to the Hard drive of the 360. I know its not a big Hard drive but im sure it cant be that hard to make a bigger one.

Maybe I dont make sence but who doesnt want free games, kind of like downloading free songs off limewire or some crap.

I honestly would mod my xbox if I knew there were endless possibilities to what I could do to it. Im not afraid to lose xbox live, ill just buy another console. It would also be cool to use the xbox 360 as a computer or something to browse the internet.

I know you cant just buy burned cd's legaly with games on them but transfering them online is free from friends and could save alot of time and money. You dont have to go to the damn store to buy a game you might not like.

I am pretty sure I have a samsung drive on mine, its pretty new. But is there any mod that will make my 360 any better at online games like halo?  For some reason I dont think there is but if there is let me know please.

What is this homebrew all about? Never heard of it. It would also be cool to hack games but i dont know anything about it. Why not surf the web off it? The possibilities are endless in my mind.

How hard can it really be to add an external hard drive? Cause I have no idea.

If someoen could point me in the right direction for modding my xbox send me a message, Ill pay someone for there time cause im clueless at this moment. Months down the road i plan on doing some seriouse stuff to the 360.

All this talk about game backups for legal reasons......if getting a replacement copy was all your worried about.  Did you ever tried to call the company's themselves and ask if they offer a replacement plan????  I know Ubisoft has one because they replaced a copy of GRAW for $10 bucks.

I have called in the past and I got a "too bad for you" answer.  If it is broken out of the box, they will replace it.  But lets say my kids destroy it after two months, I am screwed.  Why not send a replacement to me?

Seriously?

That is great! Most of the cost of the game is for the licence to play it and the packaging, if we could just replace the disc for a fraction of the cost without having to resort to pirating is just genius!

I'm sure we will be getting homebrew apps soon with XNA on the way as well. All without modding.

I have lost alot respect for the xbox-scene, There are way to many people stealing games.
Don't try and say you are "backing-up your games".
I have no plans of moding firmware,
I believe that there are way to many smart people working on moding firmware instead of working on a real modchip.

Everybody stop being so cheap and but the games you want!!!!

i think that pirating games is stealing but on the other hand the games are 60 bucks. not everyone has 60 bucks to spend on a game.  So they use this to get games for a hell of lot cheaper. you can spend 100 dollars for all the parts and disk for 10 backups and pirating or you can spend 60 on a game.  It is a money thing.

now that that is out of my system, i don't have mine flashed for xbl. i'm going to flash it with the new stealth firmware.

btw Davek1013 is the man.  I agree completely with him

I'm not going to risk ruining my $400 Xbox 360 for stupid DVD backsups.  I'm not modding my 360 until I can run homebrew, watch my own videos, and use a bigger hard drive, all still being able to use Xbox Live.
